2011 SS Door Handle

This has actually been bothering me for a while but I kept putting off asking others here.

I recently went from a 2010 GSR w/ SSS to 2011 GSR w/ SS.

The 2010 had what Edmunds calls "bioelectric door handles", that if the doors were locked and I simply touched the inside of the door handle the door would unlock. There was even a visible black portion on the inside of the front two door handles. And next to the key hole was a small rubber button that locked the doors when pushed from the outside.

However, on my 2011 it doesn't have the bioelectric door handles. There is only the small rubber button next to the key hole which now locks AND unlocks the doors.

All in all it's not a huge deal, but I liked the ease of having the doors unlock while I was pulling the door handle.

Anyone else go from a 2010 w/ SSS to a 2011 w/ SS that noticed this as well?
Or did something go wrong when they were putting my particular car together at the factory?

they changed this for 2011's. ultimate reason is it probably reduced costs (so now it's standard for Lancer GTS's which is nice)

you use the SS button for both lock and unlock now. it was kinda cool to just pull the handle, but oh well /shrug

Man, I wish they had not phased it out. O well I can ultimately live without it.

I love that feature on my 2010. I find myself using it on our other cars on accident, hah. I just wished that if you held it for a certain amount of time it would unlock ALL the doors. Sometimes I forget that it only unlocks my door when I have passengers.

this is another reason they decided the change it - so it's not all a downgrade. at least I know 100% when it will open just my door and/or all doors

sometimes I like the change, sometimes I don't.

I also just got into a 2011, coming from a 2008. I actually liked the old way better, but I also had some problems. Sometimes I would try to grab the handle and wait, then pull and it would still be locked. I don't think it was 100% and mitsu probably paid a lot of warranty money on it. Even though it's kind of dumb, I haven't had any issues pushing the button. Plus, my fiance would always get mad that I couldn't unlock the passenger side from the driver side. Now I can!

That is a setting that you can change. Look in your owners manual. I hated that it only unlocked my door but there is a way to change it to all the doors. I can't remember the steps but it was pretty annoying. I couldn't get the pattern down. Just look in the manual about the fast key..

I love this feature on my 08. Sucks they got rid of it on the 11.

I set mine to unlock all the doors, check the owner's manual for instructions.

Hitting the button to unlock doesn't seem so bad. I have an 08 and really like the handle unlock. But for anyone who uses the button to LOCK the doors when leaving, it should just take a little getting used to to UNLOCK the doors with the button. At least you don't have to fumble with keys.

The door handle unlock is pretty cool. Sometimes people ask me how it opens without a key. It's magic!

I love it when people asked how I unlocked my door without holding my keys in my hand.

Hmm kind of lame that they eliminated this on the 11s, this is one of my favorite features on my car.
