Clutch covered under power train?

ive searched the site to see if the clutch would be covered by the power train and found nothing and the Mitsubishi place here in Ogden Utah wants to charge me a 65-85 dollar diagnostic just to tell me if its wrong or not. and they would not specify if the clutch was under the power train or not.
basically i bought the car am the 2nd owner of it, and when i apply the clutch to take off 1st gear it releases/engages maybe a 1/2 inch from the top. ive gotten use to it but its a pain in the *** on hills or when im in traffic trying to find the 1/2 inch sweet spot to take off.
anyone else have this problem? know if the clutch is under powertrain, and if not clutch suggestions including price with labor to put it on? also if i put a aftermarket clutch on there will it void my 5/60k?

thanks in advance for the help

1. No they will not warranty the clutch. I wouldn't even think about them "testing it to see if its bad". It is a wear and tear part and they won't warranty it unless you have like 5000 miles and even then it might be a stretch since you are the second owner. If it "slips" real bad, yea it need to be replaced but evos engage high anyway. Maybe try to remove you resistor pill..

2. Install is about 10ish hours of labor.

3. If you get them to install an aftermarket clutch they will try voiding you warranty on your drivetrain if anything else ever goes out..

That being said, I would def get an aftermarket clutch installed as the stock one doesn't last very long.. I wouldn't get an exedy unless you want to buy a new CMC.. check out act

ugakirk is right about them not honoring the warranty for the clutch because it's a wear and tear item.

Is your clutch slipping? Or are you just having trouble getting used to the engagement point (1/2" from the top)? If it's the engagement point - that 1/2" from the top is typical for an Evo X. Just try your best to get used to it.

If your clutch is slipping than you'll need to replace it and there are plenty of good aftermarket options from ACT, Exedy, WORKS, etc, etc.

Is that full engagement or when the clutch starts to grab?

Yea, I drive two manual cars, switch cars from day to day. My old beater Celica has a relatively short clutch pedal and is consistent. The Evo on the other hand, is a high, long engagement and a little inconsistent.

I've found I've had to hold the clutch a little longer(a split-second longer) in the Evo to engage it without it feel like its sputtering to move. So take that and the fact its a heavier car tells you why it takes some getting used to.

Like others have said, removing the pill from the clutch line is an option that many have said makes it more consistent and gives better feedback. I haven't done this, but still considering. Mostly I just have to think a little more in the Evo when I start in 1st gear.
