Thanks for input!

Basically I have 350z right now and weighing pros and cons of going with 335i or evo X, fully loaded evo X is gonna run me about the same as fully loaded 08-09 335i will.

I never even thought about a paint issue before buying a car, but never saw on any car forum to have a sticky about the car's paint, that is what made me second question myself.

I have 2003 white 350z now and have over 100k on it, and paint condition is great ! I wax it about 4 times a year and wash pretty often, and no bad visible chipping.

Also Im guessing chipping is much less visible on WW as opposed to any other colors, being that primer is white

I paid the extra 320 bucks for the clear bra to my front bumper, hood, front fenders rear quarter kick mirrors and front half of the roof.

6000km and a few tiny chips down to the primer but not any further.

mostly high way km's so far. driving up to the race track etc . the car barely gets driven in the city besides errends a few times a week. other wises i'm on a bicycle

I know you're asking for input from 2008 owners...but I recently purchased a 2011 WW GSR and first thing I did was have a clear bra installed. I owned a Lancer/Ralliart previous to the Evo and was witness to the horrors of rock chips vs our paint .

If paint is a major issue for you, I'd say the 335 is probably the better choice.

I just called and asked to have them fix the chips under warranty hes gonna email Mitsubishi awaiting a response. But if u have a z now the evo is for u, the BMW in every aspect is a down grade for u.plus don't wast the extra money on it being fully loaded or an Mr. Get a smart phone for navy, and the rockford/intelligence package isn't really worth it but I had no choice it was the only ww in fl when I bought it. It is nice using the keypad thing though. Go test drive them both, really only way to be sure.

I think it also depends on where you live. I bought an 08 WW new and now have about 27K miles (yes I don't drive that much). I live in SoCal, park in a garage and my commute is about 20 miles of smoothly paved highways and local streets. I have no visible chips caused by dirt or debris. But I could see how living somewhere with harsher weather conditions or not parking in a garage or crappy roads (ala Chicago, Los Angeles or San Francisco) could mess up the paint pretty quickly.

My one complaint however is the hood scoop, it's faded to like a pearl or ivory color. At night or from far away you can't tell but from about 6 to 10 feet away in the daytime it's pretty noticeable.

*edit - oh yeah the rear in general. So much exhaust soot collects in the back that it looks like crap 1 week after you wash it. And the paint around the rear bumper reflectors. I can't get the crap off.

Thats the thing with me, I want something a bit more luxury than a Z but still willing to put it down, and I feel I will enjoy a V6 biturbo a bit better since IM used to the instant torque of the Z, rather than get a power kick a bit higher.

Reason I amlooking at fully loaded because I want the sunroof and leather and currently have a CAR Pc in the Z and def need the nav screen (and no solutions look very clean for aftermarket nav install), in my Z it was perfect ( I put carPC in my cubbyhole and still kept stock BOSE HU)

So far my list is like this

EVO
PROS
Unique
Looks a bit better
AWD
Handles better

CONS
-Worse MPG
-5 and not 6 gears (drones a bit on highway)
-Exhaust note (since I am spoiled with 350 Z's phenomenal stock exhaust, you just cant get that V 6 sound on the evo)
-PAINT ISSUES

335i
PROS
-Better quality interior
-No droning due to 6 spd
-better MPG
-NO/less chipping of paint (Paint quality)

CONS
-RWD in snow
-no LSD
-Reliability when out of warranty (I dont plan to own one out of warranty so this is bacially not an issue)

Can anyone that has owned a 350z compare that paint quality to that of EVO please

Like I said in your previous threads, you don't buy an Evo based on it's exhaust sound or paint quality. If that really is a deal breaker on what you pick, go 335i, because it sounds like you wouldn't fully appreciate the Evo for what it's for and I rather not have to read all the threads you'll post *****ing about the Evo. My .02

The paint is a POS. Worst paint ive seen in a new car. Damn thing chips all the time, I got a WW paint brusher from mitsu and I use it all the time but you cover one chip up another shows up coz I drive on the highway alot. I knew the paint was bad before I even got the car.

What you could do if you are too worried about it is spend the money and get clear bra on the front side of the car. You know you can get the car for 32k and compete with cars that are 80k, so they had to cut the cost some how haha.

I'd have to agree with you on the highway drone in 5th gear. It's weird at first, but you get used to it. I really do wish they would have made a frickin' 6 Speed MT.

Edit: Also, in my area there are literally hundreds of 335's, let alone BMW's. I went with the Evo because it's so unique and you get loads of stares...in a good way.

I don't think he's trolling... He's being honest... you seriously have way to many reasons why not to have an Evo... you will most definitely have buyers remorse a few months down the road...

You can pick a fully loaded MR Touring for the price of a base 335i though... it's more car for the money every day of the week... and those were my last pennies

MR is not an option, looking for manual only, and it is next to impossible for me to find BMW combo that I want, (on the east coast) white 6spd with nav, and I dont think I necessarily will have a buyers remorse, because evo does have quite a few benefits over 335i ( driving in snow, uniqueness, handling) its just about valuing all the PROS and CONS and its challenging

Think buyer only wants the Evo/335 in white, no other color.
