Calling all WW owners to chime in on their paint!

Alright so I am still on the fence between the 335i and the X, and just want to get this paint issue out of the way.

I am only looking at WW, so I was wondering if owners (preferrably with 08 models) who had their cars for 2-3 years and do a good amount of highway driving could chime in, on how their paint is holding up, and are chips less or not visible at all on WW compared to others

Thank you

Paint sure is thin. But I make it a point to stay several car lengths back when cruising on the highway. Not too big of an issue for me.

Could you please tell me how many miles you have on your car and how bad is the chipping that you currently have/ if any

I just got an 08 WW Evo X 2 weeks ago which had 12,800 miles on it and now has 13,600. All the miles I put on are highway. The rock chips aren't very noticeable for me but if you look closely at the rear quarter panel then you will see some knicks and small chips but nothing too bad. The paint is definitely thin though.

I haven't had my car 2-3 years but it is an 08 and WW so I figured I would try to help.

I have over 42K miles on my 08 WW and it has some nice chippage. The paint is garbage on these cars. Im not impressed at all. Though, with an invisibra I'm sure things would be much better.

I just bought an 08. It does have it's fair amount of chips here and there. That would go for most cars that are a few years old if you drive it every day.

my 2010 Toyota tundra dont have a better quality paint . After 2000 miles i had chips in many places. Which was very disappointing.
I dont think the EVo painting is bad compare to other price level of cars. Mainly depends on where and how you drive it.
So i dont see any problem there.

I have various small chips, but you have to be about 6 inches away to notice them. I really don't have any complaints with the paint, my car as seen several trips from Omaha to Chicago and back and has held up pretty well IMO.

paint blows and can barely handle a spec of dust being tossed it's way.

clearbra the car like it's no one's business and the paint will no longer be an issue

^ this. It's not great, but I'm not sure it's much worse then some of the competition. Seen many beamers with chips.

Yea everybody complains about the paint but most new cars paint is very thin.

I have about 31k miles now. Bought it brand new. I would say that if you get an '08 make sure and get one with the Aero kit. It has bigger side skirts that keep the chips off the back of the side skirt and rear door. I don't have the aero kit and even though I got some RA mudflaps I still have a considerable amount of chips back there. You don't really notice it at all unless you are looking for it though. 2010's shouldn't have that problem because they changed their side skirts.

As for rock chips up front, I have a few but it's not horrible. I try to drive with plenty of room between me and any cars in front of me, especially if it is a SUV or big truck. Just pick up a touch up pen from the dealer and it will be all good.
