I'd call the manager of the gas station, tell him his idiot employee screwed up and that they need to tow it, drain it and refill with 93. If not, tell them when the motor blows from knock, you will see him in court.

You got me there. I didn't even realize NJ has this law... never knew such a law existed until I Google'd it. If it was mentioned earlier in the thread, unfortunately I might have missed it.

There's no "if" or "might" about it. Of the 43 posts before yours, 4 specifically use the word "law".

So you have posted for a 2nd time in this thread without having bothered to read it. Which is actually the very behavior Rob called you out on.

When I first drove to Jersey last year, I didn't know and filled up my truck before the dude even came out. He was pissed and a royal jerk. He threatened to call the cops and I just pointed at my Michigan plate and said sorry. I was surprised the pump worked before pre-paying. I guess since they are the only operators it makes sense that the pump is unlocked.

Hated everything about that place too. Every 2 miles another sign for "Fines Doubled" with a bunch of nanny reasons such as "Dangerous turn", "High collision area", "Scenic Area". There would be signs showing the end of the zone, and I swear 10 yards further another "Fines Doubled" with a new reason. Most of the time, we were in a "Fines Doubled" zone and when they couldn't find a good reason to double the fines (empty stretch of road with no valid excuse), the excuse would be something like "Enforcement Zone".

So you mean to tell me that you can double the fines simply because that's the place you decide to enforce the rules? Why not just double the fines across the books and save millions on signage since heaven forbid someone might be in a "Regular fine" zone when they get pulled over. It's like that state is actively trying to extort the citizens by doubling the fines for a road using any possible reason, and making up a reason if they can't find one.

Also found you can't get Mustard on your burger from just about any fast food place. They would gladly give me Mustard packets however. WTF kinda Twilight zone is that state.....

Once again, Michigan feels LAWLESS compared to that Police State. Here we just have "fines" and only active construction can double them. Oh and I get mustard on my burgers here too!

I have decided to just burn of the gas and baby it like no other. I have not gone over 3k RPMs and the car has driven just fine. I actually had a period of driving on the high way for 15 miles where my mpg was at 29mpg if that indicates anything.

I spoke to the manager at the shell where I got my gas filled and I'm getting a free tank out of the trouble. I'm at about 3/4 a tank right now and once I hit half a tank, I'm going to fill it up with 93 and baby it until I nearly empty it again. I would LOVE to find a station in northern NJ that has 100 octane or whatever but I have not found any stations that defintively have it. If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

No worries about RPM. Just keep it below a couple pounds of boost, and you're fine. Nice on the free gas. I'd run down the tank of 87 oct before filling up again though.

Sometimes /many times failure comes later or you can trace it back for some mistake before.
Like you weakening out parts and they fail later. etc.
Thats my Exact reasoning, read my post/story. its up to u whether not you want to risk it but i dont see how something so cheap is worth losing thousands for. sure its a small mistake anyone can make but they should take care of it for u. That specific gas station said i cant come back anymore... i dont care cause their the ones losing money since my family brings 3 cars a week to them for fillup.

I understand that being overly precautious is better than regretting something later. I tried getting 100 octane today at a select station and of course the pump was out of commission. Based on what most said, even those who experienced the same thing, by staying out of boost and I should be fine.

I haven't hit boost or gone over 3k RPMs since I filled up, minus once hitting boost a bit after I didn't realize the situation. Additionally, I got 10 gallons and it wasn't bone dry, so there was 4.5 of 93 octane in there. I also got an octane booster. If I noticed any kind of knocking or anything, I would've driven home and left the car there until I had a solution to getting the gas out. I think at this point the car is fine, I'm at half a tank and I'm planning on getting the car filled up at 1/4 tank and babying it more.

lol it'll be just fine. You think Mits is gonna even sell a car that would self destruct on pump gas? Don't worry about it. Don't hit the drag strip on it, but don't panic either. The ECU can adjust just fine for crappy gas.
