Experiences with 0% APR
Experiences with 0% APR
Guys,
I'm very close in pulling the trigger for a GSR. Based on past year experiences, does the APR goes up from 0% for 36 months to 48 or 60 months as we are approaching the end of the year? I heard from a dealer that Evo's APR never budges from 36 months. Is that true?
Thanks

I watched Mitsu's website like a hawk from September 2010 through January 2011. As the year came to a close, the cash back deals improved and loan terms got longer. If I recall it was something like this:
September 2010: $1,000 cash back or 0% for 36 months
October 2010: $1,500 cash back, same 0% loan term
November 2010: $1,500 cash back, 0% for 48 months
December 2010 to January 3, 2011: $2,000 cash back, 0% for 60 months
I know this because I purchased my car the last day 0% for 60 months was available, apparently the deals would be cut back after that. If you want 0% at 60 months, wait a few months but start talking to dealers in late fall / early winter. I think you'll see at least a 48 month term offered. You will need excellent credit and if you don't catch it at the bitter end, wait a few months into next year, that's when you can get leftovers they'll wanna move off the lot (your selection and "options" become limited though).

I am pretty sure they will offer 0% for 60 months in December and January for the remainder of the 2011. The problem will be looking for the specific color and options you want. That is why I picked mine up last month with 1.9% for 60 months. I wanted a WW GSR with SS and Nav. They are offering 0 for 36, .9 for 48, and 1.9 for 60 till the end of August. Have to have a credit score of 750 or higher.

If you don't care so much about color and options is when you'll get the best deal. I'm still a little bummed I don't have a WW Evo, but I'm happy with my GG considering what I paid and the 0% 5 year loan I got for it.
When I bought my GSR '11 in April, I had the option for 0% for 36 months or 1.99% for 60 months. I took the 60 month option.
Mitsu has had 0% for 60 months in the past (I believe they were the ones that came up with the whole 0% for 60 months back in the day), but 09 is the last time I saw that deal for 08s.

Since people are talking about APRs, if you have an iPhone, download this one app. I think it's called AppBox Lite (not the full version, which you have to pay for). They have a pretty good loan calculator where you can compare two different loans for the same loan amount but varying APRs and term lengths so you can see the difference in each monthly payment and the difference overall in terms of how much you spend on interest.
But like other people have said, the Evo is CURRENTLY offered with 0% APR for up to 36 months on approved credit, though in the past, 0% has been offered for up to 60 months. Again, these are set by Mitsubishi, not the dealership. You'll see more financing specials for the 2011s once the 2012s arrive since they'll want to move all the old inventory.
