Sad Face, MAF sensor...
Sad Face, MAF sensor...
So driving on the highway yesterday, go to pass a car, engine hesitates and get an SES light. Go nto the dealership and they tell me, oh your maf is dead. That will be 400 to replace. I told them ill pass. So I get back home, use so maf cleaner. Still no help, engine idols at 2.5 to 3 constantly
Any advice? Do I bite the bullet and drop 400? Does anyone know where I can get one cheap? Thanks for any advice...

OP - Why isn't a replacement MAF covered under warranty for you? At the minimum it's covered under the 3/36 coverage, unless it's classified as an emissions device then it would be longer.
Do you have an aftermarket air filter which the dealer is trying to use as reasoning to not honor the claim?

That's too bad, you pile on the miles faster than I do. You could try calling Mitsu North America and ask for an exception since you're barely outside warranty coverage. It's a longshot, but it worked for me with my S2000 and Honda.
My hks filter killed 2 mafs on my 08. So far so good on my 11 *fingers crossed* I don't remember them costing $400 though. Is that parts and labor? It's a 10 second install and you can do it yourself.

Since you already out of warrenty, go SD for a few bucks more. On a budget, you can re-use your UICP with DV (just remove rec. hose), purchase a new MAP Sensor, IAT Sensor, new intake (might find a used on for sale) and a SD Tune. Might be around $600-$700 total.
From my experience on my old car , its the oil that you put on the airfilter , if you use too much it leaks back into the MAF. Had to clean my subaru MAF once after i went nuts with the K&N filter cleaning kit
thankfully the sensor was not completely ruined
I also had the HKS intakes on my skyline and both MAFs on the car lasted for the entire time i had the car ( 6 years).
The HKS filters are also for track use only says so on the box , i think they are designed for flow rather than filtration, ( it is just a dish sponge in there after all) since its meant for use on a more controlled environment rather than the roads.

yea they are dry. but im starting to think that they are crap because i have the mushroom type installed on my evo 4 and now my maf is playing up making car idle like **** and use a ton of fuel. going to replace maf and put k&n pod back on
