Was about to purchase a new EVO....& then wtf?
wtf is wrong with people??? ur not buying a person here or even an exotic. its a freakin $35k car. your gonna end up with those things you mentioned within weeks of owning the car. have the dealer clean it and enjoy the damn thing.
if you buy this type of a car and all you can do is complain about little nicks and bruises, you should not be getting this car. go get urself a bentley or a ferrari. then, maybe you can worry about stupid things like the cloth interior scratching.

I guess i work hard and often for my money. 35-40k is a lot to spend that's y i cherish my evo and am always cleaning it so it stays looking brand new.
And to the OP you do have to understand that your car will get its scratch's and dings. Cause guess what you drive your car and its gonna happen. In the end tho it gives your car character and it tells a story.

That being said, I tore my evo apart when they pulled up in it. floormats, seats, trunk, paint, engine bay. I looked it over twice. Found nothing, and now my PB has me happier than ever.
Even if it's ONLY a $35,000 car.
Hey guys, so I was about to pull the trigger on a brand new 2011 EVO last night. It came with the ss package, in wicked white. The dealership only had 1 model in stock with white and SS, which is what I wanted. As I checked out the car, I realized that the car was actually on their showroom floor. Cool I thought, that means it has barely been driven, and has been indoors for the past few months. Well to my surprise, I noticed that there was some "rashing?" on the interior cloth seats. Its hard to explain, but it almost looked like somebody fat was trying to get in and out of the car on the showroom floor, and somewhat rashed the cloth with their nails or belt buckle... Its barely noticeable, and it sort of looks like the cloth is textured slightly differently after the incident. Its not a scratch or rip, but there are noticeable lines on the interior. (I counted 3 "rash lines" in total.)
So the dealership said they can try to fix it, but it wasn't guaranteed, as they claimed the cloth interior of the GSR has suede like qualities, which make it harder to restore.
But also noticed that there was a bunch of scrub marks from people's shoes getting in and out of the evo. The scrubbing was all over the plastic lower panels under the door. And I counted 1 extremely miniscule rock chip on the front left quarter panel.
The dealership said they can fix the scrubbing and the chip.
I was about to pull the trigger for 36.6 otd. Am I just being way to nitpicky about this? Honestly the problems are SUPER miniscule and barely noticeable. Am I being ****? Is it wrong to expect a NEW showroom car to be in pristine condition, with so many people getting in and out of it?

Sorry im going to have to disagree with some of you. It is a Showroom car which means its a show car that everybody can sit in it and look at it as much as they like. so yes you can expect so sort of wear not if it bothers you yes ask about getting it fixed or replaced. But dont expect a showroom car to be perfect like it just rolled out the factory.
if you really want the car, tell them to discount the tear(s) off the price. Rock chip too... how did it get a rock chip with only 16 miles? it is not supposed to be driven hard or fast with 16 miles.
I got quote $37k otd for a SSL one with all leather interior. Cloth GSR interior blows. You can order a 2012 for what your going to pay. 2011s are done for the year.

I don't care if it's a ford focus or a Ferrari. If you are spending your money on something you should get what you want. The dealers are going to more than make their money so you need to leave feeling satisfied. Why leave feeling like you already need to fix something on a brand new car?
I'm glad your that easy going but I don't think that means you can get on and ask wtf is wrong with people? If you don't like what the guy is doing just keep going and don't rag on him for talking about it.

HOLD OUT, youre buying BRAND NEW - be as picky as you want. If I were dropping 36.6 I would be the same way. Wait till the 12's come out and get em to drop the invoice price 1.5k-2k
People are suggesting taking the free detail. DO NOT let the dealership prep your car. Want to know why? Dealerships use any tactic to try to sell you a car. Don't buy into the "free detail" as something that's going to benefit you. They will give your car to some random guy with a dirty sponge and nasty wash water that's been used on 10 cars previous to yours. Think about it for a second, OP. You think you're being nit-picky now, just wait until you see your car in the sun with DISO (dealer installed swirl option) and buffer trails all over the hood, trunk ,and roof. I would personally have them thrown in a paint pen for free and do my own touch ups. Scuff marks on the side skirts? No problem! Just hit it with some compound by hand with a little diligence and they will be gone.
As for the seats, I invested in a little kiwi suede brush and suede spray cleaner to clean up the inevitable "bruising", as you put it.
Buy the car and read up on some detailing forums. You'd be surprised at how dealerships treat cars before you take delivery. It can all be corrected if you invest some time in reading various forums.
Good luck!

Thanks guys. Great support here. The original price they were giving me was 37,000 otd, but then lowered it to 36,600 after I pointed out all of the small defects. So basically I got them to knock off 400 from the price, and that is definitely the lowest they will go.
I got a quote from another dealership around my area for 37,192, so 598 more for the same car minus the small wearing and tearing.
I guess right now Im trying to decide between these 2 options, or waiting the excruciating months for 2012. Of course Im still looking at used as well.

I would wait for 2012. Should be arriving in 2-3 months and once they do 2011 incentives will begin in full force. 2010 had some pretty sweet incentives (2000 dollars back) so I would say it's worth waiting for.
About the interior, I don't think anyone can tell you what is or isn't important to you when buying a car. If you feel strongly enough about it to back away trust your gut, otherwise you will regret it later.
That said, the Evo X interior isn't exactly luxurious and easy to keep clean. If those little things bother you and if you think they would effect your ownership experience you might want to think twice about this car. I know some members have sold their cars over being frustrated with the interior and trying to keep it clean and just gave up.
In terms of compromises you have to live with driving the Evo every day, a slightly scuffy cloth seat is pretty low on the list. Rattles, poor gas mileage, thin paint, droning engine sound - Evos are really for people who are all about the driving experience and that other stuff comes secondary (or third/fourth).
Just something to think about before putting your 35k down.

Hear me out.....
35k is a lot of money to some peope, less to others. We all know what you're getting for your money when you buy this car. I agree the interior should be in a new condition when buying a new car and the cosmetics on the car should be fixed before a customer takes delivery(this needs to be in writing before you sign, as others have said). The seat issue might be normal. I was worried when I got my car about the bolster fabric looking rough and going in the wrong direction almost scuffed, but I am careful going in/out and clean them regularly and after 10k miles they look the same.
I researched the EVO X forever before I made my purchase earlier this year, looking for the right car for the right price. Its exhausting and worth the wait. I have worked for a BMW dealership for over 10 years and one thing I've learned is no matter how special/limited/rare a car is, they absolutely want it sold to meet their month end quota. They will work with price enough to make the deal attractive and still make profit, the bottom though is they would rather move car sales then get a premium profit. This is especially true for stock that has been there greater that 90 days, it can star to affect their allocation if cars sit and there sales volume isnt steady.
Considering all that, I went to a local Mitsu dealer to double check my intentions on purchasing a EVO X used and wanted to road test again. I drove a MR and GSR, and purposely visited the dealer 2 days before the end of the month. They didnt have the GSR in WW with SSS like i wanted and tried to get me into the MR in WW that I test drove. I stood my ground and after an hour they offered to get a GSR with the specs I wanted from another dealer in FL. The sticker on the car was 37,770. After telling them it was more than I wanted to spend and they knocked the price down to 35,990. I declined and haggle them asking if the manager could do any better, because i was more interested in a newer used Evo w/ under 5k miles so I could hold more value. The manager got involved and ultimately they offered me 33,500.
My budget ahead of time was 30k for the newest used Evo i could find with the right specs. Knowing this I declined and continued my search. I ended finding a used 2010 GSR with SSS and Nav in WW, 2500 miles for 27.5k from a dealer(they wanted 32.9k). You need to be confident about the purchase, know the product and let them know you are a buyer that knows what you want and how much you are going to pay. I'm not saying it will work this way 100% of even 50% of the time, but its how the industry works. Good luck and I hope you find your deal.
