That's a VERY subjective. I have lifetime oil changes, so it's free if I change at the 5k mark. and I do it religiously at 5k. no reason not too. There are users here who change their oil at 3k. In y own opinion any less than that is a waste of oil. Especially since we are of course on synthetic.
I don't have the service manual handy, which does mitsu say to do the first oil change?

I change it every 2500-3000 miles just for peace of mind. I want my car to last me a long time and I will never listen to a dealership. they are just trying to save money by only giveing people 2-3 oil changes a year instead of 4-5 (if you have a year of free changes.) Thats what i get out of it. I took my wife's brand new civic to get a free oil change at her dealership and they told me they wouldn't do it till the "service" light came on in the car. Complete b.s. to me, if i want my oil changed they should change it.

There is a huge difference between a N/A Honda making 120 HP with a 2 liter engine and a Mitsu making 300 HP from the same size. Oil should be changed based on driving conditions, mods on the car, and weather. I change my EVO oil every 3K miles end of story. Its got a lot of mods and lots of HP, plus I use $12 buck a quart oil as well. For my wife's Honda Pilot... screw it I wait till it says its due; but I do use Mobil 1.
Where in cali are you? Where did you buy your car? Pics??Back on topic, I asked the dealership (the owner specifically who races evos) if there is any brake in fluid or any reason what-so-ever to change the oil before 3K and he told me no, and the factory fill is off the shelf mobil 1. I know that's not what you asked but I thought it was relevent. I change mine between 3 and 4K, I try to do it closer to 3K but sometimes it isn't a convienent time.

I do agree with you, but at the same time the customer is always RIGHT!!!! and if i want my oil changed before the service light comes they should change it.

Now I know your not asking for once a week. But where does the dealership draw the line? Answer... They go off of the cars indicator or a factory schedule.
