Yea I got in contact with a local performance shop that works with only EVO's and STI's and they will only charge me $35.00 plus the cost of the fluids

That beats $75.00 from the Mitsubishi dealer. Thanks for all of your help guys and I will let you know if it fixed the notchy noise

$75 isnt not bad. If they do it and there is a problem later its documented. But if you do it.. Its about a 3 on difficulty.

That is not the correct fluid, MT-85 was designed for the Evo 1-9 and DSM. The X uses a slightly different viscosity.

It's normal in X's. Mine constantly clunk-grinds to 3rd. Not as bad in 2nd or 1st though.

This is completely normal, i think. When i first got my EVO i was also novice at manual, and i had the exact same problem; did some searches; thought my synchro's were bad, bla bla.... well now that i'm fluent at driving manual it doesn't happen anymore. It was all in the way i was shifting and how i 'angled' the stick, if that makes any sense.

i found that when shifting from first to 2nd, instead of pulling straight down on the stick, i was trying to actually pull down and LEFT, which caused it to grind. Pull the stick straight down and it'll be a solid smooth motion. Same with 3rd. Shift in one solid fluid motion.

This was my case, hopefully it helps.

Not having owned an Evo, I would have to agree with the majority saying it's normal. I would be very very surprised if you wore out the synchro's in just 7200 miles. Just sounds like a quirk of the transmission. I know on my Z it likes to make a clunking noise when coming out of first and going into second.

^I had a 03 Z that did the same thing...going into 2nd was annoying.

Anyways thanks for the info on the Redline Cocktail. I'm going to try this on my '11 X. I have 300 miles on it now but it was notchy to begin with when I drove it off the lot 2 weeks ago.

Now I'm off to the Ultimate Rattle Thread. Yes, my X is rattling and driving me crazy at only 300 miles!

Plus whatever brand of transmission/shfiter bushings you prefer; I have WORKS, but Torque Solution, AMS, TWM, etc. all make them too. I also have a WORKS short-shifter. All together it makes for a wonderful package, my X is the 2nd best shifting car I've owned after my S2000.

The S2000 transmission is amazing! I always look forward to something that will be as good. The 350Z was not as good with its 6 speed. When I do get an EVO I will see how it compares to those two.
