First maintenance?

Hey guys, just purchased a new 2011 GSR. I was wondering what I should be looking to do in my first maintenance? I've heard people say to do a complete system flush of all fluids at 1,000 miles. Is that a bit of overkill?

Overkill. I changed my tranny fluid at 1,200 miles just because I didn't like the stock fluid, but it's definitely not required. Just follow Mitsu's service interval schedule in your owner's manual, severe duty if you drive hard/modify the car.

Mitsubishi sent me a free oil change coupon; when I used it I asked them to make sure all the fluids were good and stuff..

i did see your WW brand new X,,, good choice

i would only suggest to drain the engine after 800-1000 then change it at regular intervals whatever that will be for you.

the tranny , transfer case and rear diff i would suggest to drain at 3,000 miles to get all the machining lubricants and break in metal particles that brand new part will expell.

What oil brands are recommended for our cars? What do they use at the dealer?
Sorry if the questions are a bit off topic. I have 1372 miles on mine and, i gues i should get an oil change.

I'm probably going to flush everything at 3,500. Maybe even 5,000 if I'm lazy...

It would be wise to put the cat back before going to a dealership for maintenance.

Assuming his warranty isn't void yet, lol.

yeah unless your doing it your self. you may want to put the cat back on in some states its illegal to remove or modifiy the cat and the dealer can refuse to work on your car if the cat has been removed or modified.

yeah... i actually had the gaskets replaced on the test pipe yesterday at meinecke. i talked to the mechanic the entire time he was working on the vehicle and he ended up being very knowledgeable about the car. said he services a 2008 wicked white from around here and that he could do any maintenance on the car that i would need so i'll probably take it up there, seeing that it's right around the block from me and their hourly rate is pretty good. was thoroughly impressed to be honest.

After I hit 1k, I had my dealer empty out all the fluids except tranny and had them refresh it all up.

Just because the car is > 1k miles on the odo doesnt mean that the oil hasnt been sitting there for 6+ months. I knew mine was sitting there for about 7 months before anyone bought it (me). I drove for about 900 miles and changed it all and once I hit 10k I changed my SST fluid as well. The first oil change I did at 900 miles the car did feel how it should have when I got it off the lot.

Just get all the fluids flushed and make sure they do flush them instead of topping it. If they are cool enough they will let you watch or let you help. If they complain about liability tell them give you a piece of paper accepting the fact that if anything does happen they are NOT responsible. I just park my car myself on the lift and help them change oil at my dealership. The regular service is great but parts... lol. I had to find my own part numbers as noone has a clue...

I've got a free oil change and filter pass for a local Mitsu dealership. Putting that to good use...free oil is good enough for me!
