Salvage- buy or not?
Salvage- buy or not?
Hey guys whats up? I have found someone selling a WW 2010 Evo MR with a Salvage title. He is asking $14950. It has navigation and leather seats...etc The seller says there is "no engine damage, airbag did not deploy, car starts but needs a new radiator, bumper, left fender. and hood." i believe he said the miles were around 14085 miles. The evo still has teh damage so id have to fix the damage and replace the parts. SO my question is do you think its a good deal and should i pick it up or should i pass on it. and if you think i should buy it what do you think a fair price would be? Thanks for your time

* I haven't gone to check it out yet since he lives abt 2 1/2 hours from me and im a school all week so i wont know about its condition until Sunday at the earliest. BTW this will be a DD and that only.

Here is the thing.
If there is ANYTHING wrong with that tranny, count on forking over $10k for repairs for it
.
I've been looking for a salvaged evo for a track car. They can be hit or miss. Usually miss though

Besides testing the fluid, there isn't a ton you can see from the tranny side of things.
You can't really test the transmission without a running car :-/
if the left side was hit, I would check and see if the SST cooler was dismantled from it's position in front of the driver front tire. If that side is damaged you are already looking at least minor SST repairs.
I mean the SST can be fine, but 2k miles down the road if something happens to it, you're out of warranty and it's $10k to replace them (they aren't serviceable at this time). It's definitely risky.

Haha ...you saying that to keep me away????? Haha jk man, but ya i have no idea on how much it would cost to fix up the damage and i know parts from the dealer are gonna be a little pricey but idk...i think im just having a case of tunnel vision(sorta? =/ lol)

Ahaha nah, I'm looking at an 8 (=
The cost to pull out and straighten the radiator support (not to mention if welding new pieces on is necessary) is going to run you at least 1.5k alone, and that's going to the cheap places. And judging from the pictures, you'll need a whole new front radiator support frame. Finding new fenders, crash bar support, fmic, headlights, and whatever else is wrong, is not worth it. Just by looking at it, its obvious it's not worth it.
Unless you have a spare stripped shell laying around to get the pieces you need. But what are the chances of that

There is no way that car will ever be straight again. The chassis looks dammaged. Look at the front passenger wheel. It's been pushed so far back that the wheel is now allmost touching the door. Part out is the only future of that evo.
I sooooooo want those seats
, but to the op, DON'T DO IT. To much to fix(whole front end, side skirts, maybe even a door)and those tranny's are just to pricey to fix. Do yourself the favor and get e pre owned that's intact and running, just to save yourself the headache.

Ok thanks a lot guys, im not gonna pop on it, ill just keep lookin for a cheaper 03. But Thanks again, you just saved me from the most expensive mistake of my young life haha so thanks again.
but yeah, not worth it

TO GET OVER THE PAIN OF BUYING THAT AND TRYING TO FIX IT.
