450awhp? how to get there?

I havent looked into X's much but my brother has a X MR and its completely stock right now, He wants to get 450awhp and he has around 10k to spend on mods. I am not new to turbo cars btw. I am an Original DSM'r with experience working on Evo VIII's and IX's. Whats the best way to get this 450awhp on California **** Gas 91 and maybe tuning for a dual map E-85? Thanks for the help. I didnt see a staged upgrade path anywhere on site and I believe in Buy Once , Cry Once.

to hit 450awhp

injectors + fuel pump
3 in turboback exhaust
intake
ic piping + intercooler - 3.5" is smallest i would recommend
fp red, bbx-full or larger turbocharger
cams maybe
clutch packs as well since i think the stock packs are only good till ~360/370ish wtq
also will have to get at minimum stronger rods because stock rods do not take kindly to over 380 - 400 wtq depending on dyno if your looking to for similar torque as well

Thanks for the recommendations , I didn't know the trans was so weak and the rods couldn't hang. I guess it isn't no 4G63 lol.

thew gears and what not of the sst is not weak at all, its just the clutch packs for the tranny need to be beefed up. ur best bet is get in contact with a shop with lots of experience with the sst

I dont think you need to upgrade rods yet *correct me if I'm wrong. But you might want to upgrade the rod bolts and head studs.

My suggestion would be to call up ETS for a sweet turbo kit. Sounds like exactly what u need. While stock frame turbos are great, a.k.a. fp red or black, a bigger turbo is more efficient.(I'm not a stock frame hater..that's the route I'm goin..). The more efficient turbo will allow you to run less boost to hit your goal than any stock frame. Since you are running less boost, you can keep torque down so you can keep the stock engine internals and stock clutches.. its torque that kills rods and clutches. On E85 you might could hit around 450-500ish whp, but keep the wtq around 360ish, which is a safe level. And its cheaper in the long run. prolly need an upgraded tranny cooler tho..

So your brother got rid of the IX? Have you tried hitting up a local shop like FFTEC?

He got it there, you will NEED cams and clutch pack AND better rods.

FP red should get you there but will be close, so you might wanna consider FP black. Fp stands for Forced Performance, just fyi.

Also, 91 octane wont give you jack. I hate running 91 but I have to as I dont feel like dual mapping 91 and E85. If you run E85 you CAN break 450whp (a friend of mine has an MR touring with FP green and has broken 450whp with FP green.)

thanks for the Info on cams and clutch pack, I have never heard of those before but then again DSM's have either Auto or Manual ahaha. Yea I know what FP is, I am new to Evo X's but Have always owned Mitsu's.

No worries man, didnt mean to insult you btw. Just being helpful as it is the sole point of the forums.

The stock clutch packs are good till 370/380 then there is a high risk of them breaking so you have to go with SSP's clutches and I would suggest you to go with 600 or at least 500s package. Why 600? Well, better be safe than sorry. FP green will get you there with E85 but if you want it on pump you might consider FP black, FP red might get you there but it will be a hassle trying to squeeze all the power out of the mods. My philosophy is that if you can push lets say 450 with your current mods, I will want to be sitting at 430 for not pushing the car. To reach 450 price wise you are looking at 18 grandish with labor if you are bone stock.

Why does everyone immediately suggest a Red or Black? Look at E-specs new thread right under this one.500whp and 360 wtq. Stock internals. It is torque that kills engines..by keeping torque low you can run stock internals and prolly stock SST. And its only $3000 installed right now!!!
