New fuel filter? Or clean up the current one?

I had bought the Blaq ops fuel pump kit about a year ago ( http://www.blaqops.com/evo-x/) and was wondering if it's ok to just take the fuel filter off and run some water through it or if it's best to just get another one. It's the black fuel filter that comes with their kit.

**** We do not hide the fact that the filter is a Jegs brand (made by Russell, who is owned by
Edlebrock) so that you can easily buy replacement stainless filter elements from them as
needed, they are less than $10 at this point, However being stainless, simply washing and re-
using should last for a very long time.
Looks like you can do either.. but if they're really less than $10 per filter, I think I'd just order up a few and keep a couple as spares.
