Question Fuel Filter Location

Ok one more question. I've got an 02 OZ, and it's at 50,000 miles...so I'm trying to do a little tune-up. Where exactly is the fuel filter located? I have not been able to find any books anywhere in any local auto parts stores that have the Lancer. I looked at the fuel filters in the store, and I think I located it on top of the engine manifold....just to the right of the oil filler cap...is this correct?

Thanks!

won't call you dumb, but it has a filter of some sort, it'd be crazy bad if something got shoved through one of your injectors

Some cars have them on the way back to the tank. You might want to check under the car on the side.

Well the first filter is attached to the fuel pump in the tank. If you look at the how-to on the fuel pump in the intallation section you'll see a picture of one. There might/should be another one though. If you are good friends with your delaer or parts guy at your dealership, they should help you out. You could PM HobieKopek or Boe, I'm pretty sure they would know. Jacking up your car and following the fuel lines from the tank to the fuel rail would also help you find them.

The one in the tank is a "water sock". It's not really a filter.. It's there to trap water that might get into the tank (and they work remarkably well at it). There should be another filter in line though. Try to find someone who has the OZ shop manual; info will be in there.

Good info to know. I'll look for the other filter while I'm under my car for hopefully the last time tonight (at least the last time for a while).

How is there no fuel filter? Isn't that just a completely BAD idea?

i've had a service manual CD for quite a while. it's not in any of the fuel chapters nor general maintenance chapters. it's not in the car assembly parts lists. i've looked at diagrams for the fuel tank assembly and followed lines from the tank to the fuel rail. came up nada. good luck on finding it since it doesn't exist. my car has 90k miles on it and i started looking for it since 30k.

Yeah, I knew you were a reputible source, but I still find it hard to believe. Now with that out of the way, can one be added? Can one be added to a turbo charged Lancer without affecting fuel pressure?
