throttle observation and question
throttle observation and question
So after a a few spirited pulls on the highway it seems as if the gas pedal become less responsive and squishier when applying slight throttle for a normal take-off. The clutch isn't slipping at all and I would like to completely discount it from the equation because you can manipulate this problem with the car parked and just giving it some revs . I'm pushing it slightly and no revs. And we all know how sensitive our gas pedal are. It's like for any throttle response you have to apply more pressure by pressing in your throttle foot deeper. Is this because I was mashing on the gas and hyper extending a mechanical part? Perhaps something else? Maybe my VTA bov is throwing something off severely? I am getting my car tuned in the beginning of December, so I would like suggestions on what I can have the shop check out while it's there. Anyone else care to chime in? The TPS isn't throwing any codes.
My injectors, pump, and vta bov are being swapped for tuning so I guess that is a start. Along with trying to get gas at a diff station.

happened again on Christmas Eve figured it would go away. started the car up first time this morning in a week and it seriously feels like either the throttle response is delayed or gas pedal has lost some pressure. It revs and I know we have a sensitive gas pedal, but this is very strange. Cold weather perhaps? Can anyone make a recommendation as what to check before I take it to mitsu to get turned away? lol
I would suggest putting your BOV from VTA to recirc. Evo's do run better with recirc, the piston response in the BOV might be just slow enough to make the throttle response seem a little funky.
It's a super easy troubleshooting step to try.

Drive by wire cars have a slight delay from the factory. I think you are now noticing it, look up the sprint booster or the blitz throttle controller. I have the blitz piece and in just the SP1 mode, there is a huge difference in throttle response.
My tuner told me he felt a *huge* improvement in throttle response on his MR by ditching replacing his upper and lower IC piping.
Looking at the piping size change just on the UICP it makes sense to me. I plan on going with the K&N intake this spring to get 1) turbo spool sound, 2) DV dump sound 3) replace the UIPC where it does that funky size change. ...oh and I dig the heat shield and the reuse of the OE snorkel.

i'm not vta, have everything besides bigger turbo and cams, + this isn't a boost leak. it feels very effortless to push the gas pedal down. almost as it isn't there

Oh, in that case since this Evo is drive-by-wire the gas pedal uses a spring to simulate the old throttle cables. Sounds like your spring might be worn out.
I had a 2005 Scion tC that the same thing happened to. Very inexpensive fix IIRC.

sorry, this was just the same problem on a different car, so the part number I had (even if I could find it from 5 years ago) wouldn't help.
But before buying parts, stick your head under the dash, take a look. Maybe the spring came loose and isn't on properly.
Whole thing just makes sense for you to suddenly have less pedal pressure, yet the car runs fine.
