High idle for 5-10 seconds

I'm new to Evo's, just bought a 2010 Evo x GSR used with 10k on it last month and am happy with it, but I think its acting a little weird. This may be normal but wanted to check. Did searches, but didn't find anything.

Sometimes when tapping the gas, or blipping the gas/clutch to pull into a parking spot or inch forward or something, when you let off the gas the RPM's don't return to normal idle but instead will hang around 2-3k for anywhere from 2-10 seconds, then will slowly drop back down to normal idle. There are no check engine lights, and it seems to perform fine when driving. I asked a Mitsu dealer about it and the service manager said he's heard its normal for this car, that the EMU is just holding high rev to burn off a rich mixture in order to meet emission standards, but I'd like to hear from some other Evo X drivers.

Is it normal for an Evo to regularly hold high idle for a few seconds or is it an indication of an air leak or something else?

It's normal. It's there like you said, to avoid a rich condition. It's really bad when you disconnect the battery or reset the Ecu. The revs will then hang a lot more until it fully relearns.

Yeah like he said, its called rev-hang. Kinda annoying, but I never rev my car in neutral so it doesn't bother me.

I have heard this complaint from people a lot, but in almost four years, have never had it happen to me.

Lucky you. Mine will do it usually once or twice every time I drive it. As long as its normal though, I'll stop worrying about it. I just don't like it when a car does something noticeable that I didn't tell it to do. Same reason I don't like daytime running lights, auto windshield wipers, etc

Thanks for the replies I feel more confident about my purchase now.
