Go and test drive the Evo again if you are not sure. I test drive the car 5 times. At different dealers. I did give them a chance to sell me the car.South Coast was the best price.
I did try to find things about the car I did no cart like. But could not find anything worth wild to talk bad about. The more I drive the car the more I like it. The car sold me. I think with this car you get the most Bang for your Buck.
Just go drive it again, let the car sell you.

I do think a lot of it is the age thing. I got to reading the thread on the "Age of Evo X Drivers here and I found it very interesting that from the guys that were over thirty (like me) there were various commets that read something like this, "I drive an Evo because of the 4 doors and 5 seats - I have kids, otherwise it would be a C6 Corvette."

Ha! I saw that and I was like, "That's exactly what's happening to me!" Getting old and serious. Ha! Interestingly though, I didn't see and Porsche comments. I guess Evo drivers like Corvettes.

They are both a great bang for the buck so they are similar in that way. It's pretty simple, one can handle year round weather and one can't.

I have found that Evo owners tend to blow up their cars more than Corvette owners. But Evo is still fun in winter.

BTW even stock ride height Vette's have really low ground clearance. I used to hate bobbing, weaving, swerving and stopping short/slowing down to avoid dips and bumps in the road so as to not bottom out...

I owe you guys an update...

It hurts me to say... that while I decided NOT to buy the Corvette I might not buy an Evo X either.

I've been running this in my head for the last couple of weeks, and the problem is that no matter how I put it, I need to have a truck or a big vehicle to haul my musical instruments, boxes, bikes, surfboards and equipment... Specially my drums and guitars that don't fit in an Evo.

I still want a sports car, but I can't afford both an Evo and a used truck. Between insurance, gas and maintenance... it'll add too much stress.

I'm seriously considering getting a used 2009+ MX5 NC for $20k and a used truck for close to $10K. Altogether, a little under what I was going to spend on the X.

It really bums me out as I really want one, but I can't help but look at the numbers and realize that both an Evo AND a truck is just too much money - when I'm planning on buying property in 3 year's time.

This is not 100% yet, but I've started looking at some MX5's and I'm going out this coming weekend to check out some I'm interested it.

Good thing is, the Miatas are fun and worthy track / auto X cars. So, I can get the best of both worlds - the car for the track / fun, and the truck for the utility stuff.

Even if I get the MX5, I won't stray far. I'd be buying a used one with very low depreciation factor and if I ever see the opportunity to move up to the Evo, I can do it without losing considerable moving - But having had the experience of owning the little roadster.

Those of you who REALLY know about cars know that the little Miata is a truly great car.

Plus, I've been talking to Robevo and I'm interested in learning to drive rally. But that's a long journey that needs to start with a cheap FWD car anyway... But in the end might lead me back to the Evo anyway.

I'm hoping Mitsubishi keeps making the X well into 2013... Otherwise, we'll see what happens.

That's the update for know. I guess I'll be back later with a final update as to what I did. Later, Danny

Why not look at an evo 8 or 9? They are more drivers car's and you wouldn't feel as bad taking it off the pavement.

Another option I would look into is an s2000 as well. I had one for 8 years and it was dead reliable and fairly quick stock and really fast turboed Besides they can be had for pretty cheap as well

1. I know the 8/9's are amazing cars... But I just like the X THAT much more. Just personal preference.

2. I did consider an S2000. They're great cars and they look pretty sweet too. But I prefer the MX5 over the S2000 for a whole number of reasons. The S2000 might be bigger, manlier and faster... But I feel the MX5 beats it in everything else.

Have you driven a nice IX?

As far as a driving experience they are quite a bit more fun than the X IMO.

Keep in mind, you are on an Evo forum so we will do anything we can to get you into an evo

I admit I haven't driven one. I know I'm going to like it. I'm just trying to find a good balance between performance and luxury. Keep in mind the cars I was looking at... Corvette, Porsche, etc. I find the X gives me that. The 8/9 are raw and great I'm sure, but I feel they won't deliver in the comfort, luxury and image department. With the MX5 I'll get an amazing handling and fun car... That I can track and auto x, might not look as impressive as a Corvette or even an X (to some eyes), but also gives me leather, a sweet folding hard top, a manner the latest electronics, etc, etc. Remember, I'll be driving it 90%, tracking it 10%. I'll be going to see clients, pitching proposals, etc, etc. I need to look as serious as possible while not buying some stupid prop, poser car. (certain BMW's, Mercs, and similar

Look, I'm treading lightly...I don't want to offend or insult and Evo 8/9 owners... I think they do look great... But if I were to buy one of those, I'd do it exclusively for track or rally use. No for a DD.

I don't know where you have been finding your prices, but you can get a C5 Z06 for $20k. I just bought one 2 weeks ago for $21k, and it's an '04 with 36k miles. It also came with American racing headers, X-pipe, and an extra set of Z06 wheels. These things are dirt cheap right now, and easily the best bang for your buck. That's coming from a former X owner too.
