Most likely a different class.

Edit: They made one with a 2.0 motor as well. This is the one they use for IRC.

Because you need to sell a production car with a 2 liter to qualify for WRC.

Wrc cars from 2012 are must be 1.6l

All the real rally cars are still 2.0 l.
Wrc cars is basically phantom cars and they have nothing to do with a rally idea. They are basically as far from the rally roots as the grupe b was

The 2.5 sti engines basically not an improvment....
It is a money saving move, besidea thy know the americans would buy it. Based on they own beilives which is as already mentioned... bigger is better.
Lol

And the same time they keep the good one 2.0l for themself.
Ir was obvious it will work for an avage guy, which is a majority of the buyers anyway.

It wouldn't have made sense for mitsubishi to invest all that time and money in the 4B11t then drop it a year or two later so they can up the size.
There is another reason that Mitsubishi doesn't want to increase it to over 2.0 liter. In many other countries, the tax is levied on displacement. To increase the displacement will increase the tax, which means an increase of the price.

Interesting, never knew that. But to add to that, it just doesn't make sense for mitsubishi to R&D another block (or even the same block) with different displacement. It would take a large sum of money and the return on selling a few thousand evos a year isn't going to cover it imo.

I say they focus on the XI engine and leave the 4b11t as it is. It's proven and works great.

About the engine size I really wonder why Subaru didn't just bring over the 2.0 EJ207.

I thought I'd miss my '08 STi but I don't. The Evo is just such a pleasure to drive, I've forgotten how much I loved my STi.

That said, we all owe a bit of gratitude to Subaru for bringing the '02 WRX to the states. Without that move, and massive sales that year none of us would have evos in North America.

While I agree engine size isn't everything you can't honestly tell me there aren't very good advantages to a bigger displacement especially on the street. Sure in rally they can use anti-lag but on the streets the extra low end torque can help alot and up top too. The EVO engines are SUPERIOR, I never said they weren't, I just said a big of extra displacement would have been good.

Yes i say that. I drove many times my friend Z06. It has a build engine for tq. It has 7 liter V8 in it. I go around with an evo in traffic just as fine. Sure you shift less, but then why you dont get the sst if it ia bothers you?

I see the bigget displacment getting useful when you using a much bigger turbo to help the turbo spooling. That is all.
For tq i like the higher compression build vs bigger displacment idea.

2.0l is a perrfect displacment fot the evo with stock and close size turbos in my opinion.

You dont have to agree or follow it. I am just saying.
With a restrictor i make low end high tq set up in my car with a 2.0 l engine. Beilive me when i say there is negligable differrnce on street.

Ps: my car makes with a mildly tuned( due head damage) 450 ft/lb wheel tq. And starts around 2.700 rpm. But with a restrictor the car dies at 6k. Rpm. And makes 298with whp
So if some one i do drive with tq ... lol

you're welcome

original owner who ordered the exact specs i wanted, no wing + short shifter which was a non-standard config.
