Just get her a lancer and be done with it. Kids her age should not be driving high performance cars, and like the other person here mentioned if she gets a boyfreind guess who will be driving the car when thier together. Do you really want some kid you don't know driving your daughter around in a evo that he doesn't know the capabilities of? I think not!!

Get her a ralliart and swap some brembos... Or an '06+ WRX will give decent handling, braking and safety wise, they are top notch.

The only thing you should worry about is the insurance.

Your daughter shouldn't need brembo brakes for everyday driving. If she needs brembos to keep her from killing herself then it's her driving that needs to change. I crashed my cars a couple times when I was younger and my parents didn't buy me an evo because of it. I just learnt to drive better (eventually).

I would say no. Is she still in high school? Jealousy and vandalism could happen. Not to mention the attention she might get while driving could be dangerous.

You need to buy her a raging hunk of crap with lousy brakes, poor power, bad handling and so on...

If she can drive that, she can drive anything. Beside that, she will crash it within the first year. Would you prefer she stuffed a junker, or an Evo?

All im gonna say is a 17 year old...not to mention a girl thats whipping around an Evo...Safely of course is pretty cool!!!!Im 27 but if u can build the value of the Evo in here mind as a very greatly put together car that has 1of the greatest handling features and pwr im sure she will respect that and drive responcible!!!!I got friends that didnt kno what an Evo was until I got it and even now they worry about the car as much as I do!!!

To me it would be more about if its practical. I would just get a nice daily affordable car for her. I just got it pictured in my head all the boys at school waiting for a ride on the Evo. Maybe later on when she matures you can give her your Evo and get something better for yourself. Sounds like a good excuse to me!

not sure if it has been mentioned yet or not as I didn't read everythign just the OP. You could get the Evo, then buy an accessport and put her in valet mode. Car won't go over 3k rpms or something silly like that. Will still have all the braking power of the evo without all the get up and go.

I too didn't read EVERY post, but I figured I'd chime in.

When I was getting a car, of course I wanted the fastest, most expensive thing possible. Well, a level headed mother and reality hit. Two of the points she made me stick to was price and safety. To show her I was serious about a car, and that I could be mature about it, I researched for HOURS on cars. I eventually found my car - '01 V6 Grand Am with way too many miles than anyone should probably consider. Well, that little car has done it's job, and well at that. It had the acceleration to get me OUT of situations, but wasn't so fast I would kill myself. I know for a fact that if I didn't have some of that acceleration, I def would have been in accident.

My advice? Get something with enough handling and/or HP to safely get out of situations safely. I've driving some of my friends "lower end" cars, and I'll agree I didn't like how they handled. Granted, a good driver could adjust to the car, but at 17, I don't know if I could have done that.

Just my .02

You'll my suggestions and my reasons:

1. Even though your daughter grows up driving an Evo, her skills are not good enough for driving an Evo. Please take her to a crash prevention training course in the future, so she will have a precise feeling about how to make right judgments in all cars;

2. You may consider buying her some car with very good braking and handling yet without excessive horsepower. Such as an Lancer Ralliart (great car for learning driving, but weak in side crash; keep the horsepower stock, of course) or an Acura TL Type-S (bad performance, but world leading crash score, according to Informed for LIFE vehicle risk index, and Brembo brakes).

__________

There are some friends saying used Civics, etc., which are not good ideas. Yes, a 4 cylinder NA car is good for teens (so they don't drive like idiots), but cars like Civics are not safe. In that sense, she will be better off getting something used like a 4 cylinder Accord, 4 cylinder TSX, or a 4 cylinder Legacy.
