High octane make a difference

I am curious if the higher octane fuels (higher than the normal 91 we get here in CA) make any difference on a completely stock 2012 Evo? And if so which ones?

Thank you

i would say better combustion and less chance of detonation when it comes to tuning but im still kind of a noob to the inner workings.

depending how much higher, it will give you better gas consumption, unless your tuned it wont make a difference in power, it will just prevent knock.

My 2010 owners manual says that the car is tuned for 93 octane and 91 octane can be used but performance will be less.

Back in 2003, with first Evo VIII in the US, the user manual said the car was tuned for 95 octane and I don’t think you can even get that gas in the US. I think it was 95 octane or maybe 96 octane. Someone correct me if you know what it is. I can't remember.

Im pretty sure back in '03 you could get 94 octane at the pump. I know Sunoco carried it. Now its all 93 and lower. Im not sure about the Evo, but its possible it was tuned for 95 or something.

So if your tuned on 93 Octane will you be okay using 91? Will you notice a difference in daily driving?

Save yourself the headache and pick up the Cobb AP and run the stage 1 tune for 91 octane. Problem solved.

Good idea. I have been researching the Cobb. I think after I get springs that will be my next purchase

Pick up the Cobb first and save yourself some money with the extra gpms you will gain from it. I wouldn't want to drive around putting in the wrong octane gas for to long.

You wont gain jack if you use 93 and you are tuned for 91. I had 0 difference when I did use 93 (out of state or 3 hours away from me was the only access I had 93). You dont want to downgrade your octane from your tune.
