Evo X...Subie...what to do...
Hey guys
I am currently the proud owner of a 2005 Evo MR. However, the novelty has worn off and the miles just keep piling up. I rode in my buddy's 2011 WRX and considering it's a base model, was impressed how well made it was (I guess any interior has the capability to 'wow' me compared to the Evo!). In deciding what car I want to get next, here's my background: father of 3, no autocrossing/ track days for me/ car will be daily driven.
This is the 2nd Evo I've owned; my first was an 03 Evo, and wanted a softer ride, and the 6th gear - hence the MR. Because of this, I probably will never go back to non-awd/ non-turbo car ever again! So, my choices are Subaru WRX 5dr, or an Evo GSR (I'm dreading starting again with the 5spd/ KYBs...but dayum Evo's are wonderful to drive!)...
Any well thought out advice would be appreciated!

Well the Evo X can be a bit noisy on the freeway when your in 5th gear.
I've seen many people go from Evo to Subie (thinking the grass is greener on the other side) and come right back lol. You can find a used Evo X with low miles for the same price as a new WRX. Might take a while but they are out there.

Not sure if it matters to you but all the reviews seem heavily in favor of the X over the subbie. But personal taste has to enter the equation as well. I believe one review said something to the matter of "if you are worried about the interior you are missing the point of this brilliant machine" I probably butchered the quote but you get the point. I believe the Evo X interior was made "just nice enough" to attract buyers that couldn't live with the previous generations. But it is hard for others to tell you what you would like. For me NOISY interior and harsh ride was what I was looking for. Not saying the X is that "bad" but one persons bad is another persons good.

I owned an VIII and totaled it recently, then tried to go back to an 2011 Audi A4(exceptional interior) basically every option you can desire. After a couple months I couldn't take it I thought I'd fall asleep driving it. I sold my wife's Denali and gave her the A4 and bought a X. Back to driving fun. The X interior is not Audi interior but it is better than the VIII and has cruise control. The seats are a bit tight if your chubby like me but no biggie. You'll love the X it feels refined compared to the VIII but still has enough of that rally car feel to make it enjoyable.
I picked up a X about 2 months ago after taking 4 years off from driving cars (last cars were, wrx, sti, evo 8, evo9) and driving lifted prerunner trucks. So i was over the truck and started looking at a 2011 WRX/STi..i just couldnt do it, they dont even compare to the EVO on any level IMO. and it is rediculous to to say the suby interior is nicer because hands down there is nothing nicer about the suby interior over the X.
I just recently bought a X and was comparing it to the Subie. The Subie to me is just the same interior wise as the X. But the Subie does have 6 gears, the back seats fold down (might be important to some), and personally I found the Subie seats more comfortable because I am on the fat side. I also like the sound of the Subie with the boxer engine.
I found the Evo to be more attractive on the outside and just a little more responsive and more fun to drive. Also there is very few used Subies in my area and even fewer new. So if I wanted to stay local the used Subie's were going for the same price as a new GSR. Even though Mitsu has screwed me in the past, I have also always liked Mitsu for some odd reason I cannot explain.
You are asking this question on the Evo forum so you know what kind of answers to expect. But I believe both are really good cars and you should always go with your heart or gut. Go with what works best for you.
