Lightbulb ETS quiet exhaust and a test pipe... Too loud. Ideas?

My current exhaust set up is too loud. I have two kids and really need to quiet the car down a bit. It's hard to hold a conversation in the car and the back seat is too loud for the kids. I had an EVO 8 with buschur exhaust and a magnaflow muffler running a down pipe and test pipe previously... my X is significantly louder.

Currently I have an Ultimate Racing down pipe and test pipe mated to an ETS V2 Quiet Exhaust. Honestly I thought this set up would be a "quiet" option, but it is really loud.

I'm considering the UR mini muffler test pipe, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that will make. Has anyone switched from a TP to this? Is it barely noticeable or does it make a significant difference? Searching on here I found that people like the UR mini muffler test pipe, but haven't quite got my question answered. Anyone with my set up that has switched??

I don't really want to switch to a high flow cat, but will if thats what it takes. Just don't want to waste 300 bucks on a mini muffler if its not going to be a noticeable change.

My kids thank you for any help!!!!!

If you have an ETS exhaust and its too loud, I would think you should call ETS. Surely they would have the best range of options to quiet down their exhaust. Just IMO - Michael @ ETS is great help.

Have you thought about a HFC? You don't have any leaks do you? I wouldnt think that quiet version should be too loud.. If it is, then I guess you could just use the stock Catback..

The mini muffler test pipe is MUCH quieter then both the resonated test pipe and a HFC, I've had them all....
The mini muffler is the best option.

The test pipe does make a decent difference, if the quiet system is too loud the only real option you have is adding a HFC to quiet down the system. The test pipe w/ resonator does not work all that well, it does change the note, but it doesn't quiet it down much. The 3.0" diameter resonator takes effect around 5000rpm+ where a 2.5" seems to take place around the 2500rpm range. It's all based on sound waves and resonance frequency. The HFC does add a restriction into the system and changes the note.

I have a resonated test pipe and after my last tune, the car is so quiet i had a mini muffler and that was too quiet. Was the exhaust put in after a tune? Try the UR resonated test pipe.

I have a V2 Quiet with a 100 cell HFC and AMS downpipe and it is loud. I like it that way though. I don't know if a HFC option would make it significantly quieter.

Michael -

Have you tried putting the resonator right in front of the rear axle? As you know (so I'm saying this for others, not to insult you), the effects of a resonator depends not only on size and such, but also on location. From what I can tell from spending hours looking at the designs of Evo X exhausts, the quiet ones either are small (which will push back the optimal location to the point of being in the actual muffler, so that works) or have a resonator before the rear axle. It has always surprised me that your system, designed to be quiet but also 3", doesn't have a resonator in front of the rear axle.

I always thought the ETS quiet was loud even for a quiet exhaust. I do like the sound though.

For quiet I still prefer my T1R exhaust. Full 3" with resonated testpipe.

It's quiet compare to the Buschur, ETS, and UR exhaust I heard.

Here is a thread with pics of how the T1R exhaust is designed. Super quiet and only aggressive at WOT. Good for a daily.
