For a more sleeper look. Would it affect the cooling efficiency if I were to do a layer of black rattle can paint?

or should I take it somewhere?

or unless there is some other method for making it black...

I would suggest having it anodized. I had mine done by a local place, 3 yrs ago, when I lived in Raleigh, came out great. It slightly faded but very hard to tell. My car is garage kept, so I don't know if that would make a difference at all.

 

This, or similar. MAP also offers a coating that does the same thing, I had them use it on the intake manifold of my IX.
