HELP! .. no seriously. Help.

alright just a little history about me and my driving past:

I started out driving my mom's 97 neon at the age of 14. (RIP Neon)

so then I got my first 2003 lancer. it was okay...like a neon but more refined, less composed. since I was the one to destroy mom's neon, I gave her the lancer (she still drives today)

I got a 2008 Lancer DE which is great. it's smooth, feels NEW. feels like a luxary car and it's just a lowly DE...

so then I started missing the neon (don't you dare ask me why) so I got a 2005 SRT-4. all I can say is WOW. I turn heads because people think it's a lowly neon, and it's really the EVO of dodge.... so....

now I want an evo. I HAVE to have an evo. I crave more speed, and more controll. Now heres my problem: Should I hold out for an evo X? (attempting to drop cash on it by next Christmas.) or should I go for an older model (2005-6 maybe?) and aim for THIS summer/Christmas?

I know theres a huge difference in the two cars. the new evo X feels like it's worth 100,000! (minus cheap plastic interior) whereas the the older Evo feels like my 2003 lancer with turbo...and some SICK awd! but not really dramatically different...

whats you guy's take on this? also, what about maintenance. the srt4 is kicking my wallet's *** right now because it's an 05. So many things need to be replaced...Timing belt, Clutch, probably Master/slave cyl.

I know the older evo's have belts vs. the evo x's chain. Also, my 08 lancer hasn't given me a single problem. it's at 80,000 miles.

My 03 lancer, the tranny is about to fall out, catalytic converters are about to splode. other minor things wrong...

which evo is less of a headache? also, how much $$$ average on maintance. someone told me $6000 every few months for clutches/differentials/maintenance items.

so in short:

Which evo should I buy?
Which one is less of a headache?

PS I hate automatics. period...but do you think I should settle for a ralliart instead of an evo? : / be descriptive pls!

Evo's can be expensive to maintain. All depending on how you drive....
A newer one you have the basics: oil changes every 3,000 miles, trann and diff 15,000 miles, all the other basic new car upkeep.

Older ones can be more expensive to maintain depending on the condition of the car. You may have to replace belts, pumps, clutches, etc.

All depending on the condition of the vehicle. Not a one size fits all answer here.

$6000 every few months in maintenance? only if you are blowing up the engine every 6 months.

Whatever you do, if you have the opportunity to get an evo, do NOT get a ralliart especially if you hate automatic transmission.
I had a ralliart, trust me, you will feel like you've really missed out when you get home after seeing an evo on the street somewhere.

Also, the VIII and the IX are far more superior than the newer ralliart. When I chose to buy the ralliart I was low on cash, but now that I look back, I probably could have gotten an older IX or VIII for less money (or at least the left overs could have been put towards maintenance/modding) and still had more fun with it and probably would not have sold it.

My IX doesn't drive or feel like a regular lancer with a turbo.

Geeze its evactly like this on dodge forums about the evo. -_- didn't ask for all that...

I have 15 grand that's burning a hole in my pocket. Just wanna make sure that I choose the right evo. I've heard that the older ones are faster but the X has better handling. I wouldn't mod it at all, probably just CAI and springs like the srt4. I like my cars STOCK and fast.

Also, what's the insurance rates like? I'm not over that 25 mark until 2013.
