new here and looking
I have always been a big evo fan and i am thinking about getting rid of my acura as i am bored with it. I know i do not want to buy one already modded because i dont know if it has been taken care of. I am looking to spend around the 20k mark. what should i keep and eye out for? anything to stay away from?
Your going to be looking at a high mileage X for that price. Just make sure you have extra for maintenance and replacement parts if things go. Vehicle history is very important when buying used. If your strapped already the X may not be the one.
When you do get the money, don't be afraid of a modded car, just do your research. The people modding cars are generally taking the very best care as they are sinking more money into the mods and, of course, want it to run well. While not always true I suspect you'll find that the modded cars will be at least as well cared for as those that aren't.

Your best bet for an unmodded car is going to be a dealership. First off, we're more likely to get a lease return, or an unmodded trade. That said, don't pay more for mods if there are any. We sure as help didn't when we took it in on trade. So any dealer trying to charge you for the mods is a crappy dealer. Just to keep it in perspective, there are unmodded used Evo Xs out there with 40k miles on them still going for 24-28k depending on the equipment. They hold their value well.
If you're going private sale, as a previous post said, modded cars are generally well cared for. However, take the time to find one modded the way you want it, because unlike a dealership private sellers will expect money for the mods.
Also, in general know when the last time wear items were replaced. Purchasing an Evo and owning one are different. The normal wear items like tires, breaks, rotors and clutches are much more expensive than on normal cars.
