Back to the dark side

Morning gents. I picked up T6's '10 MR last week, finally rolling hard through the corners again since I sold my IX RS a couple years back.

Few observations in case anyone cares:
Steering feel is phenominal, but I can definitely tell the different from the IX RS. The RS felt like it reacted to steering input almost before I moved my hands, the X is definitely incredibly sharp, but it's like a katana (X) versus a laser beam (RS)

SST takes some getting used to. Driving around in normal mode produces some jerky shift action at times, at light acceleration. Almost like the clutch wants to slip but then just locks up and jerks you. Kinda like a bad driver in a regular manual, letting the clutch out too soon. I can see why Turk said I'll probably want to shift it myself for DD.

Power delivery and shifting is just incredible. It's got the MAP EF2 on it, and from 2nd gear up through the 5th it feels like the power is simply uninterrupted. The shifts are imperceptible, and the power from the EF2 just never stops coming. It's running on a 91 octane tune right now, but 93 as soon as I get the new exhaust parts in (swapping HFC for test pipe and ETS V2 for Cobb quad-tip).

Questions:
Is there an iPod interface or cable I can buy for the '10 navi deck?

Should I have the timing chain inspected when I get it retuned at Cobb?

Any other things I should be mindful of with a '10 MR? I hear there may be transfer case concerns?

Grats! Great to hear a IX owner not bashing the X!

Do drive it manual, I used to drive my RA in manual and shift with the paddles all the time. Saves you having to deal with the jerkiness in D/Normal Mode. Or you can swap it to Sport/Auto, but then the engine drone (blender noise lol) will be constant as well

Check under your glove box (top left corner) there might be a USB port there for your iPod and/or USB flash drives. I believe 2010s had them, specially MRs. Or how about the center console, under the HVAC controls... I'm sure there's an RCA input in there if you don't have the USB port

That's what I love/miss about the SST... Power deliver on Sport mode (can't say just how badass is Super sport as mine was Ralliart with only Normal and Sport modes) is almost uninterrupted. I can never (no matter how hard I try) shift as wicked as the SST can... not to mention this is my 1st manual car so I'm a bit of a noob.

Dam, reading your post is making me miss the SST so badly

Yeah, I wouldn't bash the X, I just bought it and I love it. The IX RS and the X MR Touring are really not comparable, two cars built for very different purposes, just happen to perform similarly.

I think one reason that driving in Normal mode is a bit annoying is the ETS exhaust, it drones pretty bad when I'm just trying to move along at a normal pace. Once I get the Cobb quad-tip on there I'm sure it won't bother me as much, the jerky shifting has been getting better as I learn to modulate the throttle better. The SST just has a little learning curve. Driven in anger though, it's just amazing!

I'll check for that USB port, thought that was 2011+ but I'll take another look in the glove box.

Is it really that common, still, for IX owners to bash the X? I knew when the X launched back in '08 there were a lot of hardcore Evo fans that weren't fans of the new model, but I had thought the X had earned its respect by now.

I will always miss my IX RS, but I love how the X MR performs and drives, I wouldn't trade one for the other. I'm just happy to have this X MR now.

Some ppl just never got over that nonsensical hate

Sidenote, are you planning on upgrading your exhaust right away? and which ETS do you currently have?

I guess old habits die hard for some, but if you haven't owned or spent a good amount of time in both, can't see how you can honestly compare the two.

I'm looking for a decent deal on a Cobb quad tip exhaust right now, the car has the ETS V2 regular exhaust on it at the moment. Why do you ask?

Ah, well I'll be posting the regular ETS V2 for sale as soon as I get the Cobb bolted up.

Glad your enjoying your mr, Before i bought my 2011 MR i figured id never drive an auto ever.. but having driven a gtr i got excited about the paddles.. Sadly it is slightly diffrent in the shifting department. But over all I love the practicality! it can do everything from driving around with the mother inlaw.. to full out road course shifting performance..
I too.. dislike how normal mode is set up.. I find the only time it shifts the way i want it is if i barrel in to a corner turn the steering wheel and it will shift perfectly.. but stop and go traffic shifting is jerky ... Sport mode is a little better for auto in stop and go traffic.. and Super sport is rediculus.. may as well be a 16 year old reving the crap out of a type R just to show off..
So i'd say 90% of the time i run in Manual mode.. and if i'm trying to keep things smooth and i know i'm not about to be heavy on the throttel (mother inlaw in the back) then Nomral mode ..

The rest of the time.. I'm in Super sport Manual. I just keep the rev's low to save on gas and seems to work.. lately ive been working hard to save on gas and i seem to be getting 320km per tank city driving on the V200 cobb 93 octane tune. which i have to admit is quite Rich.. Blow's black smoke if i really get on it. just a big Poof under initial WOT and even worse if the car isn't quite up to temp.

Over all SSmanual ive found is the best all round, most natual driving feeling the car has. the Auto modes could be better defined once the tcu gets cracked. id increse clamp pressure with less time between shifts (might make it clunk a bit more like super sport) but then id also raise the rpm's a good 500-1000 between shifts. I'd like to test something like that out.

Congrats the SST is amazing. I have the GSR but used to have an 09 ralliart. It was so nice on days I felt lazy and wanted the car to do the work. It will shift faster and more accurate than a person can on a consistent basis.
