If the oem wheels are hub centering then how come when you set the wheels on the studs they aren't centered until you run the lug up? For them to be hub centering wouldn't placing the wheel on the hub center the rim on the studs. As opposed to ours where they don't center on the stud until you run the lugs up.

Sigh.

When you put the OE wheels on, they are centered. They just can rotate slightly around the center until you put the lugs on. Hub-centric does not mean immobile. It simply means that the centerbore of the wheel matches the lip on the hub exactly.

If it's the wheels, look for a cracked spoke. There is no fix. A wheel with a cracked spoke must be replaced.

Well I am not sure if we are talking about a cracked spoke, the tech pointed out that the holes where the studs go in have become bigger since it had the wrong lug nuts...and that is what creates the clicking noise apparently

Did the wrong lugs open up the holes all the way down or just near the top? I've seen what tuner lugs do to mag-type wheels; usually it's just some beveling at the surface. The shank part of the mag-type lug still fits snugly. But maybe the previous owner really did a number on them.

Well the tech did show me and say that it looked bigger on the inside of the wheels meaning it probably made it bigger all the way through...

What's funny is that, the clicking noise seems to be present on dry days... We are having some rain here and i dont quite hear it. I take the car out when it stops, doesnt do anything at first but it seems as the wheels/brakes get dry by driving around, the clicking comes back lol

I am confused as hell right now... Could water affect at all if this is the problem they are mentioning? Or is it something else completely?

Ps. It was sunny and i had the clicking sound... Washed my car, noise disappeared and came back maybe a day or two later

This is the oddest thing ive encountered so far with any car

i don't think its the holes, i call BS (esp since it was looked at by a stealership).. i don't think that bigger holes would make a constant clicking. Wouldn't it just click once when you accel, and another time when you decel? (when the lug hits the side of the hole?)

Frankly it doesnt seem to do it when i accelerate, it is only when i am braking, and when braking i have to give it more pressure. If i simply gently brake it makes no noise

I really dont know what to make of all this...

How do i explain the no noise when its wet, also the clicking coincides with when i swapped the winter wheels for the stock bbs

Nothing makes sense lol

Ambient humidity, like ambient temp, has a large effect on brake-shim noise.

Have I suggested that it might be the brakes before? tee hee

I agree with you 100%, i was convinced it was the brakes until the dealership told, on both occasions that it was the lugs that made the damage and cause the clicking...

Wouldnt ambient temp cause squealing of the brakes and not clicking ??

my old car had this same problem. It was a '96 maxima, so i didn't question it (the car was simply old), but i will say that i did not have aftermarket lugs or wheels. Everything was stock.

Little update guys, I swapped my summer wheels to winter wheels and the clicking noise is still there when I brake.

So far, I brought the car twice to Mitsubishi and once to shop. Mitsubishi claims its the wrong nut lugs that I used that created the sound. The shop took the brakes apart, said that there was nothing loose, everything looked good concerning the pads and rotors, etc.

They did a cleaning of the pads, yet the noise was still there when we drove it after the work was done. The guy advised me to change my pads since they are almost done. Before I do this, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

An important thing to consider is that the noise seems to disappear when it is raining outside. I wonder if it is the pads that are causing the clicking when I apply the brakes.

I am out of ideas and starting to go nuts since I am troubleshooting, wasting money left and right just to not fix anything.

Thanks for your help, I badly need it lol
