breaking point?

I'm a bit new with this stuff especially evos. I picked up a brand new 2012 evo x gsr, and alot of people have been wanting to race me, but I know you have to wait until the car is fully broken in before racing and moding, does anyone know? Please and thanks!

That you're actually talking about street racing. It's for douches and not tolerated on EvoM. If you're talking about racing on the track then that's cool. As for break in period? Some say it's broke in from the factory other say wait a few thousand miles.

Yea I think the owners manual says to wait until around 600 or 1000 miles to drive it really hard.

+1

Just laugh at them and continue driving normally. That's what I do. Street racing is stupid.

That's funny, I didn't see him mention the word "street race" once. Doesn't look like his post has been edited either, so maybe you are jumping to conclusions on his intentions. Maybe he has some friends that want him to take it to the track and race him?

Anyways I would probably take it easy for the first hundred or two, change the oil after the first 50 or so. But remember that you do want to do different loads on the motor so the rings seat properly. Don't ***** foot around and be down on power for the life of the motor because they didn't seat properly.

This is my break in process... Take it with a grain of salt.

Drive to 500 miles under various loads without exceeding 5k RPM.
500 miles change the oil and filter. Check fluid cleanliness. If it's clean, move on to higher revvs and various loads. If it's crappy, stick to same routine.

1000 miles change the oil and filter. Check coolant, brake, power steering, etc.

Car will be broken in and not a low compression turd. I consistently made more ego points on the dyno compared to friends with the same mods and tune using this method. But, like I said, take it with a grain of salt. Results aren't always the same.

Sounds like the tried and true break-in procedure. Everyone should do this, regardless if the motor was "broken in at the factory". You just can't know for sure if this is the case, and even if it was, you're not hurting the car by running a longer break-in period.

I bought my car brand new. Drove around all day, got 300km on the odo and went to the drag strip that night. Few days later went and did my first HPDE event. Started modding right away. The car has 13,000km, making 423hp and runs perfectly fine. Theres your answer...

give the guy a break, some of you guys act like you never have fun when you drive your cars. What's the point in owning an evo if you're not gonna drive it hard from time to time. And by having fun, I don't mean street racing...

Anyway, the motor is broken in from the factory so what I would break in is the clutch. Aprox 600 miles of city driving... that's what I did.

took you 3 months to get to 500 miles? I bought my car last wednesday with 6 miles. Already it has 760 miles... doing an oil change on monday.

TIL: I drive a lot.
