If Evo X didn't exist
Also, if you want a refined Muscle Car, buy a Mercedes. You can get an E55 AMG for not that much money, these days. They don't handle that great, but they are very well put-together, AFAIK.
Evo 8 or 9.
If no evo at all I would have been in a 2010 STI hatch. It was a big toss up between the two when I bought my X in 2010. I really like the hatchback cargo but the X is just a better car in every way.

I have been living with Dodge products for 10 years, now. I have spent more time in the Charger and the new Challenger than I would have cared to. I drove a Charger R/T around Lake Tahoe (through the tricky bits in the National Park) as well as through the country-side and into the desert. I was in it for long enough to come to a conclusion about the car, if that is what you are getting at. The plastic, inside the car, gives the impression that it was not made with care. The navigation system I did not like. The trunk liner started falling out within a couple of days. The suspension was wonky, to say the least. It wallowed in even the nicest of corners.
There is nothing refined about the Charger. Comparing a Charger to an Evolution, in terms of refinement, is like comparing the IQ of a kid with downs to a Pop-Tart.

If you haven't driven the current generation SRT-8, you can't really claim to understand the refinement. Virtually every review written has compared it favorably to BMW in terms of refinement, which all the reviewers admit is just as shocking to them to find that the case.
So on the topic, for me, 2012 SRT-8. If THAT didn't exist, maybe a G37 or a 370Z.
