Roof Rack for an X.

Hey guys, don't know if this is the place to post this, but here goes.

Wanted to buy a roof rack and was looking into yakima.

Got this from http://www.socalevo.net/forum/index.php?topic=48012.0

Base Roof Rack System for EVO X:

Q-Towers Part # 8000124 Retail: $159 (set of 4)
Q5 Clips part # 8000605 Retail: $35 (set of 2)
Q83 Clips Part # 8000683 Retail: $35 (set of 2)
48" Universal Crossbars Part # 8000408 Retail: $70 (set of 2)
(Optional) 44" fairing (wind deflector) Part # 8007048 Retail: $69

total Base Roof Rack System Cost $368.00

I'm sure this information is accurate (i hope), but a couple questions:

I see 2 sets of clips, Q5 and Q83, Which one goes on the first tower and which one goes on the 2nd tower?

I have a vortex generator installed, If I were to buy all those things (including the fairing), It shouldn't interfere with the Rexpeed VG right? (I rarely go over 80 mph let alone 100.)

Do these scratch the paint? If so what can I do to prevent it? Thank you guys very much for your time.

I dont know about Yamaha ? you probably mean Yakima again maybe im wrong.
Anyway I have the Thule and its amazing, fits perfect i have everything the bike racks , kayak holder and the wind screen.
Dont know which model etc have all the box's in the attic but call Thule and they will give you all the model #'s that you need and order it from a supplier or just order it from them. Also when you talk to thule they will ask you silver round bars or the black square bars, i got the black square bars they dont rust or scratch and they look good cause there black dont like the silver round ones looks to cheap.
All i have to say is everything cost me about $1k roof rack with 2 bike racks and these are the ones that you dont have to remove the front wheel you lock it in and 1 kayak holder which again the good one the one that folds down when you dont use it, you have the cheaper ones that stay up all the time non adjustable.

Goodluck

I got my Yakima last year... my parts were

4 Q99 clips
Q Towers
48" Crossbar
44" Fairing
Locks

not sure what the difference between Q99 and Q5 clip... from the picture, it looks exactly the same. but Yakima website specifically showed Q99 for Evo X. So you might want to find out..

the total cost for the base rack seems expensive. Yakima sells it for 315$, another 200ish for Fatcat6.. you can find sales at ORS or other sites through out the year... usually with 15% off.. but you need to buy parts separately as they are always sold out of certain part

as for paint, you might want to buy some vinyl.. I covered the part where the CLIPS touch the door paint. It seems like it will rub over time.. your board will not scratch the paint IF you lock the bindings tight. Usually the plastic binding scratches the top of the car if left open

edit.. did not see you added the fairing's price inside.. I guess that makes it a few bucks cheaper than buying from Yakima directly.. but buying from yakima will save you the hassle of guessing if it's the right part and use same Q clips instead of front/back ones..

I got the 4" clear vinyl from this site.. great product. I'd recommend getting 5-10ft. It took me a few tries to get it nicely on the car.. wasted quite a bit

they also serve as a little mark on the car. This way, when i take it off, I can put the rack back on instantly without measuring the car again

Yakima just came out with their new slick design.. Whisbar. You might want to check it out.. not gonna cost much more than what you are paying..

I'm not sure how your weather is, LA's snowboarding season is over.. so you have half a year to wait for a sale.. I'd wait for ORS to have 15% off

The socalevo info is old. The right clips are the q99 clips all around. Thats what I have. I've had my rack for 2 years and no scratches. I put a bit of vinyl where the clips contact the doorframe

The thule doesnt rub on the doors so u dont have to worry about scratching them and under the rack just go to pep boys buy clear vinyl and cut them like 6"x4" something like that u will see when u install it.
Again get the black bars square one dont get those aero silver ones, trust me they dont look good.
