I would check to make sure no hoses or wires were melting first

50,000 miles and it smells like burnt rubber? Hmm.. I know some people complained about that smell when the car was new.

Did you just get a service done? An oil change?

a burnt clutch smell is very distinct and isnt necessarily a rubber smell

burning rubber smell can be easily confused with burning rotten corpse smell from the clutch

The stock tires tend to smell when they're warm. Even if you drive conservatively they tend to smell a bit. The smell might be coming up from the wheel well when you're opening your hood. Did you have a spirited run when u smelled it?

Did you run over a plastic bag? Maybe melted to the top of an exhaust pipe...? I've seen crusty melted bag/plastic on a lot of cars in my experience.
