Best starting upgrades for MR

I've recently purchased my MR, and have about 10k to start upgrading. This is my first car, and I dont know much about upgrading. I will not be doing it myself, so please include labor costs (estimation).

I'm really looking to push HP, but i know due to SST, it will be harder.

What parts will give me the best performance for its price and how much HP will the parts add on?

Thanks

Damn with 10k (just for performance) I could do a whole lot, although a simple search would've yielded some pleasing results (just my .02).

Intake
Exhaust
Cams
SSP 600 hp clutch
FP red/green maybe even a cbrd
Injectors
ported stock intake manifold
ported stock exhaust manifold
intercooler + uicp + licp
(build the engine to support all this stuff)
tune with 3 port solenoid
sst tranny cooler
e85?
with this setup I would expect around 420 whp

(thats a super wild guess I honestly don't know what the matching numbers would be especially on an MR)

If you plan on pushing the hell out of it DEF buy the clutch packs. good investment.

If I were to do it all over again and had 10k to spend which I'm currently doing right now anyways (rebuild underway)

Take it to a shop in which you trust, install a t3 turbo kit of your choosing (I went 6262) cost between 4-6k depending what kit etc. Get proper injectors for said kit (500$) tune (3-700$) depending who you get to tune. So after this I'd do the 600ssp or Dodson clutch upgrade which does put you a bit over budget (6325$) for clutch install plus parts etc.

Your car will run 450+whp around 340tq on low boost (22-25) and if you have an extra 2k just build engine with some good parts also at the shop who's doing everything else for you.

Even if you don't build engine the 450/340 is still great for stock block

If you decide on any of the stock frame turbos be careful as they create lots of low end
Kaboom type of tq. Of course they are more fun.

what are your goals? If all you want is 330awhp/320ish torque, just get a Turbo back exhaust and a tune.

My highest goal is to get up to 500 hp, dont know what that will take me to on a quarter mile, of course I wont be able to do it with 10k, but maybe down the road.

For less than 10K you can get loads of bolt-ons.

TBE
Intake
FMIC
UICP
LICP

^Those alone should get you well over 300 on pump gas.

the tranny cooler and clutch pack are key if you get it anywhere near 400WHP.
I'd recommend you spend a good portion of that money on a cooler and clutch pack.

IMO I would go TBE, intake, IC with pipes, new Recirc BOV, tune, wheels and tires, coil overs and SST clutch pack and cooler. You will be very happy with that, and it will you around the $10k mark with install. You could even save money by having a buddy help with everything except the SST package and tune.

Upgrading the SST transmission is a key piece for 400+ WHP.

400+tq don't worry about whp

Boltons are a waste of money, he wants 500whp, and a nice t3 bolt on kit can easily do that on pump and keeping the safety TQ in mind for the sst.

Can't beat the roar of a nice TBE, though. I'd be hard pressed to swap turbos and keep the stock exhaust except for the downpipe.

All t3 kits come with the new mani and a dp of your choosing open, etc etc. Only thing beats that roar is the sound of spool whizzing by your "loud" car lol. Bigger turbo is such a bigger gain and wish I saved myself thousands the first time around.

Surprised no one mentioned the "this is my first car" thing. Just curious, how much driving experience do you have? IMO, if you're younger and this is your first car...spend the money on track days and learning the car itself. The Evo is a pretty potent car out of the box, if you're planning on big power down the road that's great...but don't get in over your head too early.
