Next gen Mustang is rumored to be independent rear suspension (2014+). The 2013 is solid axle, 100%. It is still definitely the fastest stock car under 40k I can think of.

According to Car & Driver the '11 Evo X MR is the best handling car for <40k. Then again car & driver is a joke...not to diminish the X MR of course, but I've read very few useful articles published by car and driver.

As far as 'fast' goes, what do you mean, straight line? Track? autox? or?

I mean I know I want an Evo I just wanted to see a list of the fastest 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Yeah I saw the Car and Driver best handling less than 40K cars write up. I can see the Evo being up there if not first though. How come none of the things I've seen about speed and handling for less than 50 or 40 have the STI at all. I thought it was just under the Evo in stats which would put it above the other ones under the Evo on the lists.

Best handling, I'd agree. But that doesn't = !fastest. The 5.0's Lightning Lap time was quite a bit faster IIRC. The power difference more than compensates for the handling difference.

The Boss 302 or the Shelby GT500? Either way Noize is probably right on this one, the GT500 puts down 662bhp from the factory and was supposed to have a 200mph top speed. There is a video posted by someone on here of a review that some company did of the GT500 but I'm at work and don't have time to fish around for it. It came a bit short of 200mph in the test they did (5 mile oval) finishing at I think 194 if I recall.

All the cars I've driven that were <40k, I have to admit my current X GSR or my previous STi (with suspension goodies) far out-handle the others. Truly is amazing.

The Evo feels loose when cornering, but seems to track better with less over/understeer than the STi. Either way, both are godly compared to the Z, BMW, Mustang, SRT4, etc

Well how do these two cars compare for modding, for example about how much would they both cost to "safely" get them to a 10 sec car. I say safely cuz I wouldn't wanna put a bunch of stuff on it to make it that fast and then the engine not be able to handle it and stuff start breaking cuz it shoulda been built up... And then once they are that fast how will they handle on a road course? Are they both still gonna be able to do all right or will it need upgrades in that department too. Not saying this is what I wanna do or anything, just trying to compare all aspects.

Mustangs, Camaros, and most american muscle car's make power pretty easily just as our cars do, but I really don't know the exact cost of turning one into a 10s car...According to MotorTrend the '12 Boss 302 did a 1/4 in 12.3 @ 115.8

I'd imagine that with some bolt ons, a supercharger, and a good tune you could run 10s without building the engine. I haven't worked on any american cars since my friends '69 Stingray and that was nearly 8 years ago..so I have no idea how long the block would last with all of that. As with most cars though it would depend some on the tuner

Yeah I figured they would make power pretty easily cuz most V8's like bolt ins and such like the Evo. I saw a 2013 Boss at a dealership and they wanted 56... it said right on it 12,000, or somethin, dealer mark up.
