I've got every expenditure I've made on my car recorded on an excel sheet. The amount is crazy high, and thats with stock turbo and longblock. To the guys that prefer not to look, what you think you put in is always a massive understimate of what really went in.

So true... I'm going to be content with TBE, drop in filter, tune, wheels, short shifter, bushings, drop, and wheels. But also maybe a do luck trunk... and that's it. Wheels are too expensive to be driving around in Colorado Springs. They don't ever clean the roads here and rarely ever repair them in my area. Also, I have a kid and a house to worry about. I don't need to go big turbo or anything like that, and I don't want to build my bottom end. If I pay off all my bills, we'll see...

58,000$ OTD 2010 Evo x mr-t in Canada here
roughly 10,000$ in boltons, which have now been removed and sold off to many many different fellow Evo x owners and some RA owners going for the x swap.

16,500$ for the new long block, 4300$ for the sst clutch upgrade w/cooler setup etc
Wheels and tires alone I've gone thru 5 sets, oem advans, ws60 blizzak winters, some crappy sailun freebe tires, wanlis which almost killed me, I'm on falken ziex now and ordered some pilot super sports lol

Roughly close to or above 100,000$ coulda bought my gtr long ago lol ah well

Oh..let's not forget my hit n run last year which put me down for 85 days without the car, and was a 16,000$ ding on the car

Great times, money is to be played with and I sure have been lol

yeah. I think it's funny how people use the word "invested" when they are modifying their cars. It's more liked 'wasted."

Thirdly, I have had cars totaled in the past (neither was my fault) and a motorcycle stolen. I know (insurance wise) that you do not get a dime back when upgrading your car on after market parts. It would really suck to invest $10k on a car just to have some punk steal or crash into it afterwards.

I want to get a tune if it doesnt void warranty (leaning towards Cobb AP). After I pay it off then I might be looking into investing a little into it. But at this time in my life I would rather spend $10k on a larger back patio and hot tube than on the Evo. I know I am the exception in the Evo community. But after the Evo (as we know it) is discontinued and the used inventory shrinks, I will be one of the few in my city where I am an original owner (with service records) of a stock Evo.

As far as warranty is concerned, check out the Magnusson-Moss Act. It's a federal law that says mods can only affect your warranty if they caused the damage OR if the mods are what is damaged. So basically, if you put coilovers on the car and the engine blows up... You're engine is still covered. If you put a turbo on the car, then the engine wouldn't be covered. Also, you couldn't put coilovers on the car and expect the dealership to cover any damage to the coilovers.

When it comes to insurance, most companies offer additional coverage for aftermarket parts. You just have to talk to your agent and get the mods covered. Make sure you get something in writing.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately especially since I just got the car at the end of December, since then I've spent/dumped/wasted/poured but definitely not "invested" $11K. I bought it with a built motor and very soon after spent $1.5K on CMC upgrade, shifter bushings, SS Brake lines & install. Then the engine rebuild cost me $8.5K and I've spent another $1K at least on other misc mods, maintainence, and cleaning supplies etc. I really need to stop being so lazy and post up a proper thread with my whole story about the car and the rebuild(s) etc.

Ok so invested was a bad choice of words. However I do believe teh Evolutions are a "cult car" and later on down the road will be coveted. How many of you would kill for something like a TME Evo VI?!?! Things are sick, that's why I had said invested. All reality is yes it is a waste of money but you do have to pay to play and money is meant to be spent.

***Also, this makes me not feel so bad for dumping all that I have so far hahaha

One of my old friends that used to work at Works had a TME... That thing was so sick. He said he got it off of a guy who really didn't know what it was.
