Decided to take the car out to log

I never realized how horrible the stock tune on the Evo X was until now. It's insanely rich and I hit up to 8 counts of knock. Did Mitsubishi just hand the maps to a dyslexic 5 year old and tell him to start typing?

Stock tune on stock car? Or do you have mods?

definitely shouldn't have 8 counts of knock on a stock tune with no mods, well at least mine didnt.

First question would be if you have any bolt-ons with the stock tune?

If that isn't the case, the knocks could be caused by your fuel pump relay. There have been cases where it was defective and was causing the car the run lean when going wot.

Haha. Yea the stock tune is crap. Once you get tuned you will fall in love all over again with car.

+1 on the 8 counts of knock is way to high. What mods are you running? And at the OP, I thought the 2012's had the new updated relay. Could be wrong tho..

Nope, I'm modded. Talked to some of the local tuners and they said it's normal with the stock tune, because of the altitude and horrible gas we have here. It wouldn't matter if I'm stock or have some simple bolt ons.

Altitude shouldnt give you knock with the stock evo. Loss of power yes, but no knock.
There is other places with high altitude all around the world, even in eu and japan etc. So the car handles that without problem.
Crappy gas.. not soo much. It is really that bad the gas in a colorado?

actually, correct me if i'm wrong here, but i think it does matter. You mentioned bolt-onS (plural with an S) so it's safe to assume you have more than just a catback? As far as i know, catback is the only 'real' safe mod you can do to a stock tune

Loss of power, yes. The air is very thin here and I'm seeing knock early on before the turbo spools. I get 2 counts of knock when I step on the gas. 5k-6k rpm sees knock in 3rd gear at WOT (normal on stock tune from everything I'm reading.)

Yes, I have a drop in K&N filter, ETS UICP, downpipe and test pipe. The funny thing about it is, the car runs great. Right now I'm just trying to follow what ETS did with doing all bolt ons before tuning.

Oh and yes, the gas is horrible here. 10% ethanol and oxygenated. In my Audi with all bolt ons and APR Stg II tune I had knock.

oh, that explains it. with those mods you will run leaner and hit higher load cells. the factory tune is pretty aggressive on timing advance. you need to tune it.

Yea a tune is basically a must pretty soon with a DP and testpipe. You can hit higher boost spike and hit higher load cells.

Agreed. I don't know how much more could be done to the car with what the logs show. I guess I just wanted to see for myself if it could be done.

I want to dyno it before the tune for my base line, though.
