Do you regret getting a sunroof?
This is true, but don't fool yourself. Evo's are dick magnets, not chick magnets. You drive one because you enjoy the car, not because you need the attention.
Definitely true TheBlade, Evo's are for the driver. but I've had several GF's that love heated seats in the winter as I usually like it colder than them inside and they can just crank up the seat warmer.
Well I had 2 Evo X's, one with, and now without. Both cars had the bilstein & eibach suspension and let me tell you right now that I felt a huge difference during cornering without the sunroof. In a nutshell, I hated the sunroof because not only did it add 50+ lbs on the highest point of the car, it also deleted the rear dome light. I mean come on, my friends cars from Mazda 3's to IS250's all have sunroofs AND a rear dome light. If you have tinted rear windows, unless you have bat sonar and spider sense, it's pitch black in the back at night time. For those that care about aesthetics, the ridgelines on each side give that unique look to the Evo and all the Vortex generators are made with those lines in mind and you'll have an impossible time finding one for the sunroof models. (Rexpeed's ABS plastic one is the only one that fits well enough for those that are OCD). Essentially getting the sunroof means adding an extra spare ontop of your roof!
My verdict:
Aluminium roof + rear dome light > Steel roof + sunroof
The only thing I didn't like about the non leather seats was that they weren't heated, but in Canada anyways, we got heated cloth seats in 2009+ that are only found on the 2010 Evo X SE. I've also sat in all the evo seats and here's my basic review:
Summary:
Comfort: Full Leather > Cloth > Alcantra
Durability: Full Leather > Alcantra > Cloth
Performance: Cloth > Alcantra > Full leather
Take your pick, basically in full leather, you would slide around during corners, but were the most soft and comfy equal only to riding on a cloud. Durability was absolutely second to none. For you, the heated option might be something to consider too if you have cold winters like ours. They really warm up the soul!
Alcantra was half leather and suade and they held you nicely in place during cornering. For some reason though, I found that the area where the seat bolsters that touches the thighs had some super tough stitches (area where alcantra meets the side leathers) and I found that they created a pressure point where it was actually painful if you sat in the seat for too long. After a long roadtrip, my legs felt like there were needles pressing on them!
Cloth recarro's are comfy, and they hold you to the seat like glue during cornering. They aren't extremely cold or hot after the car's been sitting outside either under the sun or in the wintery storms. Durability really suffers with this material as you can see wear points of where you keep rubbing when you get in and out of the car as well as the butt area. I still perfer this one over the other 2 though.

I wouldn't mind having the sunroof. I have an Eclipse Spyder and enjoy putting the top down on it when I can. Sure a sunroof might not be used all the time cause it might be too hot or you don't feel like having the sun beating down on you. But I would think its nice at night time or early in the morning when I am traveling to work or during any season besides summer.
My understanding is it does weigh a little more because of the steel roof but how much more weight is it really? Is it really that noticeable? I bet if I dont take a poop in the morning it would be equivalent to the additional weight of the sunroof and I doubt you would notice any performance difference.
Someone who had this done posted some pics. It turned out really nice. They offer all kinds of colors. Single or two tone colors and colored stitching. I think it looks much better then what comes with the SL package.

also all that extra weight up-top definitely has an effect on the handling and center of gravity
The standard unit of measure for poop, doo doo, feces, etc....from Katie Couric; it is noted that one Katie Couric is 2 and half pounds of fecal matter.

Yeah, I didn't have a sunroof in my STi and it didn't matter that much to me, but having the leather meant the world. It really upscaled the interior so it didn't feel like a base Lancer. The heated seats are super nice when it's freezing out too, specially since I hate trying to drive anything while wearing any sort of jacket.
When I was looking at the evo x's, I couldn't help but compare the leather vs cloth interiors. The leather was a no brainer for me, cloth just seemed cheap to me. The sunroof I could've cared less for, but it was part of the package. With that said, I'm not a hardcore track guy, I daily drive mine and carve backroads on occasion. The car still handles above anything else I've ever owned even with the sunroof (added weight). It sure is nice to open the sunroof on a nice 70 degree clear sky night. Would I delete the sunroof now if I could? No, I'm actually happy I have it. I use it quite frequently.
When I was shopping for my evo it was a must in my car as well. I love having the sunroof and it's nice on cruise days. While the evo is a play car it's nice to have the little touches of luxury as well.
