Question Front crash beam mods

Just wondering, has anyone seen or made or know much about the black beam that sits in the middle of the X's front grill area.

I know its a black plastic cover for the beam that most of the front bumper and radiator parts are bolted to - but has anyone tried to modify it or remove it with custom fabrication?

Or possibly has anyone tried to make a black cover kinda like the one Audi uses for its cars with the panel of black slats/fins that make the whole front look uniform...
like this -> http://www.harleypeople.org/ubb/uplo...0001/photo.jpg

Anyone modified that area at all in any way in fact?
All I found when searching was this => http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EM&Product_Cod e=BLK-ILL-EVOX&Category_Code=CZ4A-AERO

Does it provide aerodynamic benefit beyond just being a brace?

If someone were to custom fab a way to remove it - would the car's front end be too much of a gaping hole and cause massive drag or lift?
cheers!

When I installed a aftermarket intercooler it appeared that there were braces from the front middle beam (the one covered by the plastic piece in this picture here (link)
to various parts of the car like the radiator and bumper and more - maybe I am wrong....

My questions is: Can I remove the whole metal beam that is this piece of the car? (assuming some fabrication is required of course)

If I do manage to remove it - What aerodynamic effect might that have? (i realize this might be conjecture, but who knows, maybe there is a guru out there who has some knowledge..)

Has anyone else already removed or altered theirs?

Lastly, in the most simple mod - has anyone covered it up like the audi picture above?

Thanks!

Ignore me. At a minimum, I need to take my own advice about removing the fascia and looking at the car. I'll edit my previous post in a second.

Factory crash beams are for sallies...and people who don't want their insurance company to deny coverage in case of a collision claim

I prefer to think of them as very fancy brackets for a toe-hook.

its easy to get rid off. but why? there is no benefit and it will only hurt you in the long run. ok your intercooler will get better air flow! maybe 5% better cooling. screw that get meth or intercooler spray.
