Get an open element intake and you should love the sound. A new BOV is more trouble than it's worth.

As a first mod I would do a Cobb accessport or similar tuning solution. That way everything you do in the future can be optimized and properly tuned for. The extra power and delivery are worth the $$$ alone. After that exhaust and intake will probably net the best results.

If you are new to turbo cars then you will have to do a bov just to experience it. The temptation is just too much even if it is a lil rice. Run the bov, enjoy the sound, go back to stock once the sound gets to be as annoying as the negative side effects in driveability.

Anyway, I would just drive it as is for a little while. If you want to go ahead and mod already I would stick with the big names.. AMS, ETS, Akuma, or go with a Carbin Fiber box if you can swing the cash.. HKS box, Password JDM, etc..

I guess most new Evo drivers need to pop their BOV cherry.. lol Everytime I see a newbie's parts list, BOV and intake are always right at the top of the list. (Not that an intake is bad.. it's just what people always think of..) And then their next thread is "HELP - Why is my idle so crappy?!?"

That's why you always see them for sale used here on the forums.. The stock one is fine for most users on here and if you just get an intake, you have your "cool" sound that you are looking for.

I have an open element air filter and a bov that vents partially to atmosphere. My car idles fine. Buying parts you dont know how to install correctly will cause problems.

Like most are saying, drive it stock for a bit. Then you can get a TBE. From there you can get things like a CAI, IC Kit and even E85.

The car is fun stock, but it really wakes up when adding the basic bolt on's. to the vehicle.

The intake + boost controller add considerable gains.

The intercooler is worth a decent amount of power

Exhaust on the newer evo's is not a ton, but the test pipe and downpipe will add power.

If you have any specific questions on any of our components let me know and i will help you out.

Thanks!

Post some pics so we can see your new ride!

As others already mentioned, don't put a "chirping bird" BOV on your car. Leave that for the slow turbo cars on the road.

I have a cone filter on my car and I get plenty of BOV sound. It's not a bird chirping sound, it just sounds good and mean with the exhaust.

Definitely drive the car stock for a little while so you can truly enjoy the before and after effect of opening the car up with mods.

Look at my signature to see what I did for mods. I did all the supporting mods for a big turbo and race gas, but I kept the stock turbo and pump gas.

Also, thumbs up on ETS parts. I don't have any, but they are a very reputable high end company, and they post on evoM, which is obvious from above.

Good luck and post some pics man!

Congrats on the purchase! I'm new to the Evo family as well. Bought mine last year July 1st. I decided to drive it stock for a year and now I caught the modding bug. I have a polished AMS intake, with the extra bung attachment and heat shield for sale if you want to consider... Not trying to push you but just throwing it out there. I don't have a for sale thread so I'm not too eager to sell it. Anyways, I feel like this is a sales post so I'll stop lol! Happy driving! You'll love it

I have a question for all the new car owners i just drop my 2012 evo at the dealership for a check up cause the 1st and 2nd gear feels really funny like from a death stop i go to 1st the shift its kinda funny like its not smooth u can even heard some like the grains or something like that i really dont know how to explain like sometimes i have to push it really hard or play with it then go to first is that normal? (FYI: this is not my first manual car)

It's normal, I swapped to a twm shifter after the fourth day of ownership. I did all the bushings too and it solved all issues. I do still have to clutch out in neutral sometimes to get into reverse but I can live with it. I hear this is noemal for the GSR
