silly to put on only a test pipe?

So I have a stock exhaust on my car, but I'm about to get my hands on a cheap ETS test pipe. I don't have the money for a full set up yet but I'm dying for some good exhuast sound. Would it be silly or bad to take out the cat and put the test pipe in until I get a catback exhaust? Will I be running any risk? I figure the test pipe could hold me over for now until I get the full set up. Let me kno please! Thanks!

A testpipe would be fine on an otherwise stock exhaust, don't be surprised if you get a CEL even with a non-fouler installed though.

get a HFC + catback + tune or just a catback + tune, or just a tune if you can't afford the others. There are other cheap mods you can do before a test pipe like drop in air filter, uicp.

Already have a stock tune with the Access port, and my ets intake will be arriving tomorrow. So I want to get some exhaust sound to hold me over until I get the cat back from ets

The stock muffler is fairly quiet, plus there are one or two resonators in the piping as well. I don't think a test pipe alone is enough for what you're looking for sound wise. Even with an aftermarket cat back and test pipe, I still think my system is quiet. At least you have the better stock muffler. The 2008 evos had a much quieter muffler. Save yourself some hassle and just replace the entire exhaust at once.

You can always get the eBay 3" midpipe that bolts up to the stock muffler.

I had installed a test pipe on my stock exhaust system, ran it like that for a week or so before my Invidia N1 catback came in. There was very little difference in sound between the stock cat and the ets test pipe with the stock exhaust. There were still 2 resonators in the catback piping that is what kept it so quiet. Once I got that Invidia N1 on OMG! The car exhaust sounded deep and loud!
