The paint is pretty crappy.. If you own a wicked white like I do, you'll notice tiny tiny black specs all over the car. Its rail dust and its embedded in the paint. Clay bar even has a tough time getting them out. I also notice the paint chips really easy. Oh well, I'm over it at this point. I still looks really nice so its not that big of a deal..

11k miles and not a scratch. At least not that I have seen. Buying white helps. Roads are good where I live and kept pretty clean, maybe that is a reason.

LOL I just realized the post above mine said the exact opposite. Must be case by case or the area you live. Besides the weather, the roads are keeping me is So Cal. Don't want to live where it snows, friend wanted me to move to vegas but the heat can't be good for the car, I thought about moving to Manhattan but too crowded, the car will for sure get dinged. I guess I live for my cars.

18k with a couple rock chips here and there. Typical wear for the mileage.

Screw the factory paint pens. Get Dr. Color Chip. Works so much better.

My paint doesn't look bad at all for a car with 30k miles. I have gotten just a couple chips here and there, but the Dr. fixes them no problem. My wife's 07 Rav 4 has horrible chipping up front. She is on the highway much more than me though, and she does like to get up on peoples asses too. That doesn't help the situation. Never the less, I don't think it's any worse than any other cars on the road.

Around 14K here on a '10, and aside for a few small rock chips (unavoidable around here) on the front bumper and leading edge of the hood and the bottom of the rear doors, the paint is fine.

15k on a '10 here and I have just a couple of rock chips on the hood. DrColorChip over them and you can't even tell.

The paint is normal built in the last 5 years thin, but it's normal.

Rail dust is hardly the paint's fault. You haven't been able to remove it, because you don't know how. We do have a detailing forum here. Funny, most of those who complain never visit it.

No paint issues other then a few minor rock chips, but I drive the car daily and sometimes its unavoidable where you end up behind a truck or something that is dropping pebbles or kicking up stones.

dang you guys have some low mileage Xs.

11 GSR with 22K miles on the clock already! lol well most was from the previous owner, I only put on about 1.5K miles in the last 3 months of ownership. usual rock chips as mentioned on the front bumper and grill but over all, the paint has been good.

My paint is perfect and I have a 2011 X GSR as does my son. He has 11,000 miles. We are **** about keeping our cars clean, sealed and waxed, which I feel mitigates the chipping issue. My son has clearbra on the front, but mine is w/o it. People said the same thing about Honda Civics when I had a 2007 Si. Many people had horrible paint chips, but my car was virtually chip free after 18,000 miles.

Well, you should see what a Civic looks like after being transported by rail from Canada. There are products out there like IronX to deal with this. There is also more aggressive claybar, which I used on my 2011 Evo X GSR. Rail dust is not the fault of Mitsubishi.

Exactly. There is a wealth of knowledge there and some people with great advice like yourself Felix.

I feel some rock chips are not always avoidable even with very high quality paint care; for instance I was a lane over from a dump truck and a pebble flew off its trailer and hit my fender. It did not do any damage, but there is a small nick in the paint from it. My car is very well taken care of and no amount of wax or sealant would have saved this, even a clear bra would not have in the spot it hit.

After all these are Evo's, they should be used, not like an exotic where you only drive it on special occasions. I figure I should just drive it and take care of it, and once it gets too many chips or miles, just simply buy new one.

The paint pen from is "ok", however I wish I had a bit more flexibility in how I apply the touchup paint (tiny brush perhaps). But whatever...I'm not overly concerned with it. Having a 8/12 month old will do that to you.

On the other hand, I think the quality of paint on my wife's 2009 CRV is much better. Granted, it's a suv, but the 'quality' difference, imo, is undeniable. That truck takes a beating, is a dd, and swirls aside (my wife is lazy with her car and I'm not waxing it for her) the paint shows very little, if any, damage from rocks.
man this makes me feel so bad that i drive mine so much. My X is 3 months old with 6000 miles... I put my mudflaps on at 2400 miles, and have yet to see any problems that everyone was saying "the rock chips away at the back doors".

Of course i have the regular rock chips on the front bumper but you will never get away from that.

I had a ton of paint chips. A clear bra is a must IMO.
