370z to Evo X, anyone make that move?
I generally won't buy a car if it has signs of previously installed mods. However, if mods are on and I know the seller isn't trying to hide something, I'm pretty thorough when I go over a car with mods. Do everything to leak down tests to data logging. I generally check run time since codes were cleared too, if it's available.
It's why when I bought my X, it was new. I wasn't willing to buy a used one since they tend to always be modified in some way. I did buy my STi with 60k, but it's because I was being very specific about wanting an 05 (04 wasn't okay even though the bodystyle is the same) in aspen white.

I came from an X and though I had an MS3 inbetween, I wound up with a 370z. Nice car... nice interior, handled nice, BUT, the mods were limited, the best time anyone has run without going FI is a 12.2 and that was with gears and the works. Mods were quite expensive... tuning gains basically no power vs the X gaining 30 or more whp with a tune alone. The X IMO is a better car with MUCH more potential.
When I bought the STi I mentioned it had Volk RE30's. I love RE30s, and loved they were in bronze. I didn't pay anything more than what the value of the car itself was.
I wouldn't pay extra for them at all. In fact I would use the fact that it's used and has mods as a point to get the price lower. Even if they were mods I wanted.

If you bought your car from a dealership then it's a different story.

44k miles, daily-driven, 416whp; that speaks volumes if you ask me. Another local is around 55k miles and another around 65k and they're both in the same boat
Like any other car, it will treat you how you treat it. Keep it properly maintained, have it professionally tuned, modify it with quality parts, and you'll be fine. If you choose to leave it stock then you'll really have absolutely nothing to worry about considering the 5/60 powertrain warranty.

Ive not had one problem, ever.
I also own Subaru's. A bug eye wrx for several years (very good car) and currently have a B9 so its not just about brand loyalty, and personally like the 350 and 370 Z.
But the Evo X is a very solid car, fast, well handling, and reliable.
If you want one, buy one and dont look back.
If not, variety is the spice of life-
I want one badly. Being a college student and the fact that i have only had the Z for a year and a half, it will be hard trying to convince my mother to allow me to swap vehicles. If only i could support a loan. The sad thing is that when i was comparing cars a year and a half ago it was between the Z, STI, and EVO. Impulse got me on the looks of the Z and now the impracticality of it is killing me.

Here's an idea tho, work hard in school, get more scholarship, and then use it to do a trade in lol.

But when you're out of school and on your own two feet, then make the switch and hang on tight.
yeah, now hearing that all your car purchases have to go through your parents ( I assume you're living at home, and they are paying for either/or your car, living expenses, etc ).
You should probably consider yourself lucky and hang on to the Z. grumble-grumble when I went to college, I went out of state, campus was 20 miles to the nearest grocery store or non-house of town, and my parents thought it would be fine if I didn't have a car at all. No public transportation or anything. It SUCKED. By my junior year I was working 2 part time jobs ( 30ish hours/wk ) to afford a 7yo Ford Escort.
