Day at Infineon w/ an Evo X
Just completed the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School. This class was amazing!! They provide you wit an Evo X and teach you how to push it to the limits. They teach you how to handle and control the car without the traction control, how to hit the apex of every corner, and how to drive like a pro. For half of the day you practice how to control and drive the car. The second half of the day you're on the actual race track and applying all you've learned trying to keep up wit your instructor, and they push it hard. Having never pushing the envelope in my own Evo X, this car handles completely different when the computer isnt doing all the work for you. Its like unleashing a caged beast. In the beggining i was a lil disappointed when i found out they only provided the MR Evo X w/ the SST, but i came to and now have a great respect for it, because ur more able to concentrate on the driving. The class is a bit pricey, ~1k for the course, but its well worth it cause you go through a set of good tires and breaks, and a couple tanks of gas(averaging 6mpg). I was very sad when the day ended. On the drive home, life just felt so slow and dull. I'll be signing up for the stage 2 class.

This is a must attend class if you want to get the most out of your Evo X and learn how to drive it properly. I asked them why they didnt have the GSR version, and they said, at first they did let you have the option of driving the GSR, but they said people performed better and got better lap times wit the MR. They also said that the people who claimed that they knew how to drive a manual, were burning the clutch and messing up the tranny because they weren't used to driving a manual in extreme conditions. It may seem expensive, but its not. Cause if you think about it, a day at the track in your own car would cost about the same to replace breaks, tires, fuel, and fix damages that might occur to your own car. Wit the class you can thrash around in the Evo and return it at the end of the day. I think you can work out something and bring your own ride, but not sure, doesnt hurt to call and ask. but i wouldnt recommend it cause you might hold back and be afraid to hurt your own Evo.
Been thinking of doing this for the exact reasons stated, I don't want to completely beat on my car. When I first looked into it they did have the option of a GSR, interesting that they don't do that now. Wonder what they did with those cars...
That sounds like fun. Too much money so I just autoX. We should try to get an Evo meet going. I live in alameda. You should also join me for autoX. Now that you know how to drive your car you can apply it to the track, it's cheap and a ton of fun. Plus I bring my pop-up tent and BBQ inbetween runs. Hit me up if you wanna to cruise around.
Another type that's on a road course is time attack. That's a lot more fun. You get to go a lot faster but it costs more. AutoX is pretty cheap and affordable.
I'm curious as to what modifications are installed on these MRs to prevent them from overheating the transmission. I have never had mine on a track but read about so many 'Slow Down' warnings on those who have.
