04 STi to EVO X

So I might be getting a nice promotion soon and I'm in a love/hate relationship with my STi. I love it some days, than some times I hate it. Anyways, I've always liked the Xs when they came out, adn after some fiascos I had with the STi, I vowed my next performance car would be brand new. I've been reading about the Xs ona nd off for a few years now, but one thing in my mind bothers me.

The 5-speed.
Who here has come from an STi (or any 6-speed really) to the Xs 5-speed? I've read about the gearing and shifting into 5th is around 93mph or so near redline. Does it really fall flat on it's face when shifting into 5th? The STi's tranny is geared quite nice and that's one thing I wouldn't change at all.

At 76mph, I'm at about 3K rpms, but an X would be pushing along at 4K?

I guess I'm just looking for the final convincing push to get me past the hang-up of the 5 vs. 6 speed.

The gear ratio is great for autoX. It's better then the SST 6 speed. It's really great. Go test drive it and find out how you like it, I don't think it'll let you down.

Cleveland.

Speaking of Autoross, I was out yesterday in Akron for an event. A guy from NY in a white 2010 X was there and I was able to get a ride after the event to see how it felt. Seats were nice, interior was nicer than my car, and the suspension was nuts. I can't believe how hard and sharp it would dart when you yanked the wheel.

As for the 4b11...he claimed he was tuned for 21 psi, and peaked at 29. He did a 1-2-3 pull, and I was unimpressed. My stage 1 STi (intake/tune) felt faster, but I admit I liked how quickly the boost build from the twin-scroll. I was talking to a guy who now owns an X on a subaru board and he says that 29psi is stupid high (maybe even for autocross) and most likely it was a **** tune. I also think he wasn't psuhing 100 percent when I was in the car, i think he was ****fing early. Guy claimed high 200s wheel hp. Does that sound right for a tune on a X?

Btw you would have to shift into fifth at around 117-120 mph not the 93 mph you stated

Guy doesn't sound like he knows wtf he is talking about a stock EVO x peaks at 22 psi if he's running 29 on stock block and turbo and pump gas he's going to need a new engine soon. Also most people with stage 2 evos ( exhaust intake tune do) are pushing anywhere between 330-370.

I figured the tune was F-ed.

What are the impressions of the 5-speed for open track events? Like I said, the 6-speed in the STi is a really nice close-ratio 6-speed with a gear for any part of the track.

Well i work for draco performance they specialize in subi so I'm def not a hater but i do own a x we did tune my car and it makes more torque and hp then a 04 subi with the same mods. Now my buddys 04 he's usually blasting around the auto x track in 3rd when I'm in second almost always theres always plenty of power and its a smooth power not a jerky all over the place power blasting outta corners with ease. Mine makes power probably till about 7500.

Redline is 7K? How safe is it to run to 7500?

One thing I cannot stand about the STi is how the power drops because they gave us a small-*** turbo.

I think the factory limiter is 7600rpm so 7500 is plenty safe. And I believe 4th tops out at 112mph at the factory redline so if your trapping more than that you would have to shift to 5th

better as in slower shifts, worse mpg, highway noise, slower lap times, slower 1/4 and low-tech? Or better as in the only advantage is for big power, that most people won't ever see or use?

Hahahahaahahah

Wrong. Highway noise you're right and who buys these cars for MPG? I think you're looking for a different type of vehicle buddy.

Let's see the gar does 0-60 in 4.3 sec and Mr does it in 4.8 sec. Ok so its not slower to 60, how about who has the fastest 1/4 mile times nope still not slower there fastest times are held by gsrs, mileage hmm let's see one is rated at 22 and the other at 23 darn it you got me there. More highway noise ill give you that, its a rally car not a limo. Lap times that's a tough one because most magazines only test the Mr but if you look up personal times for events gsr wins over Mr sometimes and vice versa. OH YOU SON OF A B%#&@ YOU JUST TURNED THIS INTO GSR VS MR THREAD LOL JK
