04 STi to EVO X
Same power MR is faster 1/4 mile...
Most GSR owners can't do 0-60 times as fast as the car should be able to, where as in the MR anyone can do it...
MR will always be in the perfect gear at auto-x. Only downside to MR for auto-x is you can't left foot brake as it automatically slips the clutch when the break is applied.
But only real reason I replied is to correct people saying that redline in 4th is 112 or 116 mph, umm... that's just not true. It's way closer to 100. 5th is a cruising gear, but car doesn't fall flat on it's face when you shift up to 5th, it still pulls hard. 5th is actually a great gear for DDing. once you hit 50 just leave it in 5th unless you drop below 45. 3800 rpms at 80 is correct, it's not the quitest. Your choice in exhaust will obviously impact how much you can stand 5th on the highway.

Wow way to spread missinformation first you say we are wrong aboutt 4th topping out at 112-116 and then you sound like you just took a guess and said 100. People who run 1/4 have to shift into 5th past 112 mph as for the Mr thing again you are wrong stock times the gsr is always posting faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Mr has limiter on first gear so you don't get to use all of the power once someone figures out how to bypass it then it might be faster.
The TPS limiter is removable awhile ago buddy.
I went from an 04' STi to the 2011 Evo X GSR. Both cars stage 2 and tuned. The Evo would walk my old STi in every aspect of the word. It took some getting used to going from a 6-speed to a 5-speed, but I love being able to feel the power through every gear of my evo, as opposed to shifting every 3 seconds with the Subaru. The difference between the two.. the Subaru was an ax murderer, you can thrash it, throw it in the mud, and make it home in time for dinner. The Evo is a surgeon. Precise, sharp, and makes it home before dinner was even in the oven. I think that's a pretty good analogy?

it seems like you are really hung up on this 5spd vs 6spd...Go test drive the car and see for yourself, your 6spd STi idles only 200 rpm less than an Evo would at 70 mph, just like the 2006 Evo MRs 6spd do, its NOT that big of a difference. As long as the gearing is done properly 5spd vs 6 spd does not matter.
The only advantage I ever saw on a subi was the rwd based trans and drivetrain as opposed to the fwd on an Evo, other than that EVo dominates in every aspect, even the subaru guys know it. The only difference is who you want to be loyal to, and thats where the fights usually happen.

It was my car that he rode in after the autox on Sunday, I recently moved to Ohio, but still have NY plates.
My boost is tuned to 27 and tapers off to 21 when the turbo runs out. It spikes to 29 on spool. I only have a catback exhaust, and a lightweight flywheel right now, so it is def not built.
But back on topic, I test drove the new wrx and the sti when I was looking at getting a car, and they felt slow as dogs, when I drove the evo X, I fell in love with it, it just felt good.
I do wish i had a 6th gear just for cruise, but the 5 speed is fine, (I guess I've never owned a car with a 6 speed).
You know where my vote is
.

When we went for that quick ride, were you going WOT? I'm not sure if the increased lag in my STi makes it "feel" faster, but it is nice feeling how quick the turbo spools in the X. Maybe I was expecting more, but it's just like mine. Tune and that's it.
Where throughout he rpm band does it peak to 29?
The suspension though, dear god was it sharp and precise.

I never said the GSR wouldn't post faster 0-60 times, so try reading...
And I said equal power leves the MR will take the GSR in the 1/4 mile which just is true. If you don't believe me there's a best motoring video out there where they compare just that.
Sorry haven't done a pull up over 100 in a while, but I'm pretty damn certain it's not that high. Maybe I am wrong on that.
