Just let her drive it? I don't see what is the big deal. She is after all your wife.

I know we're all full of ourselves cuz the evo is the "ultimate" rally f1 race car.....but the truth is it's not, especially stock which I think the op is.
It's just a performance car "based" on a rally machine that's worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It's not a space ship. I see this in every thread...because race car.....puhleaze already. It's an effing evo...and though you'd like to believe other wise...sorry.
Teaching someone anything requires a good teacher first more than anything. When you go to any driving school they sit you down for hours maybe days in a class before you even hit the track, even F1 guys and MotoGP have to sit thru crap at every venue before they do one lap.
So explain to her the ins and outs, how it all works and let her rip....a wife is more important than a car to me. If a person has the will and motivation, they'll succeed, now if you were trying to encourage her drive stick without her wanting, whole different ballgame.
You mother effers can't sit here and tell me you never grinded or stalled one gear when you learned......not once....GTFO!
flame me if you want.

I sort of learned on my car. Drove and stalled a lot of cars while valet parking and got the hang of it somewhat before buying the evo. Since it's awd there's just a bunch of stalling.

Rashid, I don't think ANYONE on here said that they never stalled a car in their lives or are acting like the Evo is the best, most expensive car in the world. All they ARE saying is that the Evo is performance car and it can be harder to learn on then an average car. The original poster said the car is brand new. I think a lot of people on here tend to baby items when they first get them. Then after a few weeks, months, or years, that may go out the window. It doesn't matter if its an evo. For me, I could have bought a brand new Honda Civic for $15K and if my gf/wife was grinding the gears, it would be a lot harder for me to watch that than if I had a 2001 Honda Civic and she was grinding the gears on that.
Now back to the original poster. I already gave you a few suggestions on how you could possibly approach the situation and I'm sure other members will provide some additional ones. I honestly think the best option would be for her to either take a class or you rent a car and tell her that the only way she can drive/learn in your car is learn on the rental first. Its not an insane request in my book and I also think it's about "respect". If she knows that it will bother you to see your Evo go through that type of potential abuse, she should be willing to try to learn in a way you are both comfortable with.

The rental car companies here (Enterprise, Hertz, Avis) dont have manual cars and they quite renting manual cars many years ago. Wish they did though.

Not a big deal...I had my Evo for two weeks and let my GF drive it around...she actually did pretty well for the first time...her issue was not giving it enough gas rather than not slipping the clutch. hopefully ill get to take her out again soon...i know shes not going to want to drive it frequently so im not concerned about that whereas you might have to get two evos! one for each haha

Let her drive the Evo man.. be patient and she will learn without ****ing it up. One thing you could do is remove the clutch pill so it makes the pedal more predictable and slip less.

Good luck.

Well its actually easier than you think here is what you do:

first find an abandoned street or a street with no traffic that has a decline to it. maybe a back road or something. Second teach her absolutely under all circumstance she pushes the clutch in and breaks at your command NO MATTER WHAT!!!! .. At a dead stop and in neutral, tell her to press the brake and clutch 30 times so she can get used to the motion under an emergency .. Now teach her the basic gas/clutch concept. you drive the car to the top of the incline..

now... the purpose for the decline is for her to practice the clutch action while rolling. she will be rolling ever so slightly so if she isn't good at first , at least she won't stall from constant movement.... this will give her the opportunity to work on the clutch/gas combination.. once she reaches the end of the decline, tell her to switch and you drive back to the top of the decline. and repeat .....

(evo_gg driving 101) class is now in session..... =)

Just show her how to do it. It's not that hard, and it's cheaper than buying her an MR.

She's your wife. She's legally and fiscally bound together with you. So, just take her out and teach her in it.

After all there's a lot of joy to be had by watching someone learn how to actually drive a vehicle rather than sit in the left seat and pilot.
