OK just searched...is there anyone that is close by me (I live in RI) that has the necessary equipment to get into my ECU and figure things out? I am willing to drive to meet you if you are not close by.

I may be slow on the uptake here, but didn't you say your car was "completely stock with 14,000 miles" ?

Why are you not taking it to a Mitsu dealership and *****ing them out? Even if you bought it private, it's still covered under warranty...

If you read my original post Mitsu won't touch it under warranty unless there is a valid, Check Engine Light code that the car is throwing. Saying that the ECU is coming back reading "incomplete" does not qualify and they will charge me out the a## for it, with maybe the possibility of refunding me if they find something covered under warranty. They are trying to charge me $100 just to plug into the OBD port....

Post on the regional forums here and on the other evo site for someone with a tactrix cable. Considering the circumstances, I think the price for purchasing a tactrix cable is justified... just get one.

If you have had the battery disconnected recently, it will take the car about 100 miles or so to reset all the readiness states on the OBDII tests. The 2 slow ones on my Evo 8 were the EGR and Evap control.
yeah this is a warranty issue here.

Ah! A fellow RI'er!!! First of all, we need to meet up sometime...Im getting bored not seeing any other Evo's around. Second, how was you experience (or did you buy yours new and din't have to worry about it yet?). And if you have some equipment to help me out or know people who do, that'd be great.

Doesn't the bumper-bumper warranty last until 36k miles or something like that? Weird that they won't touch it... I mean you could make your car through a light and then bring it in and make sure they fix the original problem :P

Federal law says all manufacturers must cover emissions control systems for 80k or 8 years take it to the dealer and tell them that.

I guess you could say I often neglect said inspection. I have yet to get pulled over for not having had one done. Never got them on my other cars as well. The registration on the car does not communicate with the inspection part of owning a car. I dont have any equipment that can help your situation as well. I have an accessport but that doesnt really do much for you. Call up courtesy mitsubishi in north attleboro and tell them your situation. I think you may have to bite the bullet and go to a different inspection station.

I wouldn't suggest Courtesy. Maybe you have had good luck with them, but I brought my car there once and never will again. They were nice, but weren't even intelligent enough to tighten my lug nuts before handing me my car back. I don't normally bring my car to the dealer anymore, but if needed I drive up to Central Mitsu in Raynham.

I brought it to Central the first time but they were going to charge me $100 just to plug in the OBD...so I said no way and have been looking for another option since...
