About $50-60k (safety, suspension, gearing, tires, spares). Not to mention the tow vehicle and trailer.
Plus $15-20k a year for consumables, entry fees, hotels, etc.

you cant start with an awd turbo car in rally. That is a rule.
You need enough coefficient point from previous and finished ( Do not finished ( DNF) rally doesnt count , wont matter if it is a mechanical failure) to step into AWD class.
So since just starting the rally road, the evo X build is not important in this stage.

i suggest to buy a car from Special Stage.com and start playing with it. My suggestion is a Golf.
Evo is basically a FWD car, and to get the feeling and the first step to the AWD EVO, the FWD car platform will help the most. RWD platform will steer you a different direction (STI) and will be a bit harder to adjust for the Evo later.

Unlimited money is good, so you can get into an AWD car very fast , let say within a year.

Best place before you start , be humble with your attitude with your money. People WILL rip you off fast.... So dont say that, even if it is true .

So go firts and fore most to Team O'neil rally school . You will get the basics there, more insight for rally and build etc + will count to your points for the AWD turbo license later.

Rob

food for thought if any one want to get into rally with an USA market X.

Very basics costs for modify the car to rally. Not including TAX - Customs etc.

Rear diff change - with axles etc $3000
Two new stand alone $8000 and above
Suspension good ones when you dont have to buy yearly a new one starts $12000
brakes $ 4000 + brake lines set up s etc. $3000
cage $5000
seats interior safety #4000

But to understand the rally itself here is one small example.

Snow rally requiers a LOTs of tires. so when you go for snow drift you should have around 50 wheels and tires set up for it. That is one event a year. WHy? because can be icey , slushy . hard snow and soft snow .
etc.
More you will scoop up down on the road, when you start doing it. Rally is not what something you can explain at one sitting. Even though most people think it is.

Thanks for the info Rob.

I've always dreamed of taking steps to really learn to drive and push potential but knew it was too expensive long before I looked into details. I would of never known they would prevent you from starting with AWD.

they do consider your previous events even when its not from USA, when you proove it.
You can bring points from your origin country or they take FIA licenses.

Also to start rally is cheap, serioulsy. 2wd class generaly, and cheap awd like subaru 2.5 NA rs are cheap to run.
many first gen eclipse or talon running . I know one for sale $7500 awd turbo, and ready to run
So you can get cheap cars for start, and you can do it cheap. The fun is almost a same, but the price is lot less.

I think I'm going to keep with my plan of paying deeper into my mortgage and just hitting up the lower level NASA events.

It would be nice to have a house where I actually have a driveway connected to my garage, so I can still park the daily driver and build a project car.

If someone handed me $15k that I couldn't spend paying off the Evo or on my house, I would love to find a 99' 2.5RS 2DR Impreza and swap to a build EJ20 with the STi 6spd and drive line and brakes. That's the car I would want to track-**** with while learning. No Evo hate, just really loved that 6spd STi transmission for spirited driving.

I find it odd though that you live in Stafford, Va; drive an Evo and do shows but I don't know you?
Agreed. I grew up in stafford so I find it hard to believe I have yet to see you around or hear about a new one in the area.

I think the OP has dropped this thread. I seriously doubt she will post again. Too bad because Robevo had some good recommendations for her.
