Spark Plugs

Anyone not using Iridium plugs in there car? Thoughts? I think my plugs are bad which I replaced at 10K and now have 20K. At $60 a pop for four...it seems a bit expensive to change every 10K. If they are going to go bad could I run a platinum? JK

before you change them again....you may want to find out why they are going "bad".

I agree with this. The OE plugs (at least the materials ) would last at least 60k in a non-boosted variant of th engine, so the extra heat and pressure I would assume they would be better off replaced a little earlier, but yeah 10k is a little too often.

Sounds like something is going wrong.
--What fuel are you running? octane and brand? Any additives?
--What oil are you using?
--This OE block or something with non-factory-ish rings?
--Tune? What is your AFR you're tuned to under WOT?
--How did you verify gap on your plugs when you installed them?

Try just getting a wire brush and cleaning them, your better of doing that after every oil change then replacing them, should last you at least 20k.

Using a wire brush on iridium plugs is a very bad idea. They are extremely fragile; it's not even recommended to adjust the gap.

You can find them for $48 on ebay.

We replace them three times a season, or about every three races (4.5 hours)

Well I pulled the plugs and they actually look fine. So I'm thinking it is something else. No soot or anything on them. Going in to the shop next week to see if it can be diagnosed. The problem is only when you are in boost and push on the pedal to give it gas. So I'm thinking it is either plugs (doubt it they look good), coil, fuel filter, injectors...maybe a boost leak but I ran a boost leak test over the weekend and found one leak and fixed it. So I don't want to keep throwing parts at it until I have a better idea. Thats why I was curious about different plugs.

WHen I find out I'll let you know.

Not a bad deal...I'll have to keep that in mind.
