Timing Chain delima... Dealership woooeess....
Hello all,
I guess this might sound like a rant, but please correct me if I am wrong for thinking this.
So here is the story, I bring my car in since the dreaded timing chain light came on. It’s a 2008 w/ under 30K miles. I bought it used with 3K miles and its had no issues until the timing chain light. I drive like a puss, but I do merge on the highway like an *******. I keep my revs way under redline.
So, I bring it in no sign of idle issues and its been running fine even up to the timing chain light coming on. I get it to my local dealer ship and they tried to do a diagnostic check on it. The dealership comes up with nothing and tells me not to worry about it. Ok I went on my merry little way.
A week later it comes back. I decided to send it to another dealership to get checked out. So here is where it all goes to **** for me.
Ill try to keep this short…. I send it in and the response from the dealership is that they have to wait for the regional service rep to make a call on my car. I said, not needed, I just need my car fixed, Ill pay for whatever cost upfront if we can work something out which I can get reimbursed even better.
Dealership tells me, can’t do that they need an answer from the rep, since they don’t know how to fix the issue and could be more than a timing chain…..
Now I think to myself…. Your dealership is a Mitsubishi store that is Mitsubishi
certified… How can you not fix this? Why do I have to wait for someone to come back on vacation in order for you to make a call to fix something? Im not looking for a warranty fix, just fix the damn car! (no same words used, I kept pretty calm until now)

Did they say that they needed the regional rep to make a call on the warranty or did they say that they need the regional rep's advice on what work needs to be done (regardless of who is paying)? Regional reps, in theory, are not just accountants; they are supposed to be experts on the repairs, as well. They might be in over their heads and are following the chain of command upwards, looking for help on how to fix your car.
Now, that might not make you feel much better, especially if you are really planning to have the work done by this dealer, but it at least could explain the delay.

From what it sounded like, the serv department knows its a timing chain issue, but does not know what to do from there?
It just suprises me, that one man knows all this knowledge. He's like some sort of mythical character that knows everything about every car.
For this type of process wouldnt you think that there would be at least more than one person that knows all of this crap?

call a lawyer. just to set them straight. i think a lawyer will only charge like 500$ for this. or better yet. some might even do it pro bono just to teach stealership *******s a lesson. i'd find a lawyer that owns an evo also. im sure lots of them do.

The fail is strong with this post. Spend $500 when there isn't even a problem yet? A lawyer who does small claims for free? Lots of lawyers in Evos?
This is one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen..
Ok here is the latest, dealer told me that my chain is stretched and will have to pay $2000 for all the repairs. This is to include the chain and the oil something chain. Which I have read should be done with the timing chain.
This is a dealer from Washington called Auburn Valley Mitsubishi. Does this sound a little steep?

To the OP, $2000 seems a little steep to me

Yeah sounds steep. Really steep. I wouldn't blink at $500ish in labor for the work, but $2k for the job? Is the chain made of gold?
